14 Images That Show How the World Has Changed

Did you know that not so long ago, flying was something that only the richest people did? And did you know that not so long ago, children went out every day to play in the streets, even in urban centers?

According to a survey conducted in 2017, children aged between 12 and 15 spend approximately 12.2 hours a week playing video games. Yes, that’s right, modernity and its surprises. But are these advances positive or negative for people?

We decided to look at some everyday situations and we got nostalgic about some aspects. Take a closer look and let us know if you miss the old days too.

1. Computers X physical activity

Have you ever wondered why there are so many health problems these days, such as obesity? Modern times have changed a lot of things, but something that no one can deny is how we have become more and more dependent on computers. If before we spent very little time in front of a computer screen, nowadays we are completely addicted to them, and the time we sit and do not exercise negatively affects our body and our health.

2. Ending a relationship

3. Marriage

Today’s couples still love each other, but the distance between them seems to have widened. The big problem today — and a big obstacle to more sincere, active and frequent exchange — is the increased use of technology, which isolates people in the world of themselves and their cell phones.

4. Withdraw money

Do you remember when people stood in long queues to get cash? The process was always very bureaucratic. In the past, no one imagined that people would one day be able to withdraw money from ATMs. In addition, nowadays we can buy almost everything with a card, and perhaps physical money will disappear in the future and be replaced by operations via cell phones. Who knows…

5. Movie theaters

The idea of watching a movie sitting down and calm seems to be changing more and more. Nowadays, the cinemas present films in 3D and 4D, and there is also the possibility of watching a film in your own car, the so-called autocines.

6. Punishment in schools

Nowadays students don’t seem to be as afraid of teachers as they were in the past. And teachers cannot apply physical punishment to students, as was the case a few decades ago.

7. Population

In the past, the streets were much emptier, and urban centers were still not completely full. Nowadays population growth has reached alarming levels and tourist spots are almost always full of people. This is due to factors such as urbanization and rising incomes in most countries.

8. Housing

9. Chat with friends

The feeling we have is that people are increasingly busy and have no time to talk. Today almost no one is on the street or in their homes and everything is more centralized in WhatsApp applications and conversations.

10. How do children play

Do you remember when you were a child and waited for the time to go outside to play? The little ones met on the street and spent the afternoon playing, which was good because they moved their bodies and created an important bond. Today, on the other hand, the only relationship children seem to have is with the remote control. Let’s not be hypocritical to believe that it is something totally harmful, as it brings some benefits, such as improved coordination and mental agility. But it is important to have balance and allow the little ones to develop physical capacity and sociability, something that was lost with the decrease in street games.

11. Technology

There was a time when people needed to speak to an operator to call, especially to another country. Today, people make video calls all the time without paying anything. In the past, a telephone was very expensive and, as older people remember, it was included in the income tax return. Nowadays, the landline practically does not exist anymore.

12. Entertainment

13. Work

A lot of filing and hours and hours at the office have been replaced by other work options, many of which can be done from home. Technology has brought some facilities to employees, and one of them is saving time on some tasks and the possibility of remote work — home office🇧🇷

14. Family structure

Large families were gradually becoming a thing of the past. Today, families are smaller and more and more couples are choosing not to have any children. The average Fertility Rate here in Brazil, which was 4 children per woman, dropped to 2.39 in 2000 and should reach 1.51 children in 2030, according to the IBGE.

What did you think of these changes? They don’t necessarily have to mean something negative, everyone knows how modernity affects them. How do you face recent changes in society? Share your opinion in the comments.
