13 Flavor Combinations That Might Sound Crazy But Are Worthy Of Michelin Stars

Nobody knows what was the motivation of the first person who decided to dip french fries in a milk shake or cheese in condensed milk. But it was thanks to these culinary experimenters that the concept of pairing emerged—the art of combining flavors from seemingly incompatible products.

We, from awesome.club, we love anything unusual, so we’re curious to hear from netizens which flavor combinations seem strange but actually turned out to be delicious. Check out!

1. Bread, butter and watermelon

A cold watermelon and bread and butter on a hot day. Store the watermelon in the fridge for a few days, so that it is well chilled, choose your favorite fresh bread and good butter. Since the fruit is cold, it prevents the butter from melting in your mouth, so you have to chew everything for the flavors to blend. Try! We grow tons of watermelons, so this is our favorite thing on a hot summer day. © Peter Todaro / Quora

2. Corn with cheese and lemon

This dish is actually gaining popularity now, but when my husband introduced it to me, I was like, “Are you serious?” It definitely taught me to want to try anything at least once in my life, as it has now become one of my favorite foods.

What is this amazing and delicious delicacy? “You wonder. It’s Mexican Corn (Elote)! And in case you were wondering, elote is a fairly simple dish consisting (at least in our family) of corn on the cob covered in mayonnaise, sprinkled with Parmesan cheese, and seasoned with salt, lemon, and pepper. When corn is not in season, we like to prepare it using canned corn. It’s sweet, tasty, spicy, a perfect snack! © Jeannette Uzeta / Quora

3. Fries with ice cream

My flatmate brought ice cream and chips to eat. So I asked him if he was dipping the potato in the ice cream and eating it all together. He looked at me with a disgusted face and I had to convince him to try. Now he keeps asking me what other cooking secrets I know. © FhaeShine / Reddit

4. Cheese with honey and coffee

5. Eggplant with chocolate

I tried this combination for the first time a few hours ago: grilled eggplant slices with melted chocolate. The taste is surprisingly good! It’s best to use frozen eggplant, because if you let it thaw, it will dry out. © Alessandra Munari / Quora

6. Vanilla ice cream with salt and oil

I saw this dessert on the menu and thought, “God, this is disgusting.” But the waitress insisted we try it, and if we didn’t like it, she would pay for it herself. And since she was so confident about the dessert’s taste, I decided to give it a try. One spoonful was all it took. The sensations of smoothness, coolness and creaminess as I devoured the first spoonful won me over. How can something that only includes three ingredients be so good?

Since then, this is one of my favorite desserts as it is so easy to make at home. You’re probably wondering what the ingredients are in this tasty and simple dessert. It’s vanilla ice cream, olive oil and sea salt. © Laura Potter / Quora

7. Walnut, feta and basil canapés

Half a walnut, feta cheese and a basil leaf. It was my Iranian friend who introduced me to this entry. It’s a little complicated to prepare, but it generates an incredible burst of flavor. The nutty crunch, creamy cheese and herb freshness that comes from basil. Whenever I make potatoes in the oven, my husband eats them with cold milk. 11. Cheese with condensed milk

I came to visit a friend, and he has his own cheese shop. Since it was early morning, he offered me breakfast. Since he hadn’t eaten at the hotel, I didn’t refuse. He served me tea and diced cheese. I thought it was supposed to be eaten like this, but no — he took condensed milk, poured it into a glass, put sticks in it and said to eat it like a fondue. I can say that it was unusual, but also incredibly tasty! © PicaChel / Pikabu
