13 Detective Challenges to Test Your Brain

Only one in 3 murders in the United States is solved, and recent data shows that crimes tend to be less clarified in the United Kingdom — that’s because we’re not even going to talk about Brazil. Apparently, the world is in need of a genius of observation, logical thinking and intuition: in other words, a new Sherlock Holmes.

O awesome.club prepared 13 challenges to test your brain and see if you would make a good detective. And to satisfy your curiosity, the answers are all at the end of this post!

1. Bad intentions

A woman invited her friend to dinner. She made mashed potatoes and roast beef. For dessert, she cut an apple in half, offered one of the pieces to her friend along with a cream on the side of the plate, leaving the rest of the cream in a separate container. Then the woman herself ate the other half of the same apple.

The friend died of poison, but the hostess survived, despite eating the same apple. How is this possible?

2. Who is lying?

One Sunday, a man named Tom went on a field trip with his friend Chris, after leaving his brother, Dan, forewarned. The following Saturday, police found Tom dead at the scene. Dan said he had been working all week, while Chris was found wandering down the road. He said he got lost in the woods shortly after arriving there, and found his way home. Look at the picture and find out who is lying.

3. Guess the killer’s name

Ronald Green, a man who lived in a beautiful house on Baker Street, has just been kidnapped. Sherlock Holmes was summoned to solve the case. He found, at the crime scene, a note written by the victim. The paper said:

“March 2nd, January 2nd, August 1st”.

Sherlock knew that somehow the kidnapper’s name was hidden on the note. The suspects were as follows:

It didn’t take Sherlock long to discover the kidnapper’s name. Can you do it too?

5. The name is written on the ticket

One night with a heavy snowfall, Sherlock Holmes was at home, in front of the fireplace. Suddenly, a snowball hit her window, shattering the glass. He got up and looked out just in time to see three neighborhood boys, all brothers, running around a corner. The boys were named John Crimson, Mark Crimson and Paul Crimson. The next day Holmes received a note that read: 🇧🇷 Crimson. He broke your window.”

Which of the three brothers broke the window?

6. Think “outside the box” with this problem

A man was found dead in a snowy field. The only evidence left in place was a pair of marks, forming two parallel lines.

Who should the police look for?

7. There is no perfect crime

A rich man lived alone in a little house. As he had a disability, everything the man needed was delivered on the spot. The postman was delivering a letter on Thursday when he noticed that the door to the house was ajar. Through the crack, he saw the man’s body lying in a pool of already dried blood. He also saw that inside the house were two bottles of milk, the Monday newspaper, a catalogue, leaflets and unopened correspondence. When Sherlock Holmes arrived at the house, he told the police that the killer was the postman🇧🇷

How did he find out?

8. Complicated trip

Two friends traveled to climb a mountain, but only one of them returned, saying that the other had slipped on the way up and died. Upon investigating, the police ended up arresting the man claiming the following: “We got a call from your travel agent. We know you killed your friend.”

How did the cops find out it had been a murder?

9. Sooner or later, everything is discovered

A man named Evan called the police saying he had found his friend, Liam, murdered by the sea. He said he had borrowed his beach house so his friend could spend a week during the summer in California. He added that he had just arrived after spending a month working during the Argentine winter, and that he had intended to reunite with his friend, but had found him dead. When the police arrived at the scene, they soon realized that Evan was lying. Look at the photo and find out why.

11. Can you kiss… the bride?

A man wakes up after spending two days in a coma after being in a car accident that left him with amnesia. Suddenly, two women arrive at the hospital. One of them says she is the man’s wife, while the other claims to have children with him. Who is lying?

Sherlock Holmes needs your wits to be sharp. Just by looking at the picture above and using his intuitive and intellectual skills, he can figure out which of the two families is poor.

13. Only for great observers

It would take Sherlock Holmes less than a minute to find out who the thief in this photo is. Clue: the child is not the miscreant. So, can you solve the mystery?

Answers

1. The poison was in the cream.

2. Chris is lying. How could he be so clean-shaven after spending a week lost in the woods?

3. The kidnapper is Ana Green.

Take into account the following details:

March 2 indicates the second letter in the word “March”: A.
Três de janeiro indicates the third letter of the word “January”: N.
August 1st refers to the first letter of the word “August”: A.

The hidden name is Anna.

4. Jeff killed Mike. How we know?

Jack is not the murderer, he is the criminal’s brother.
Dan is not the killer, as he ran a marathon recently, and the criminal recently lost a leg.
Ben is not the killer. He’s just met Jack, as Jack and the killer grew up together.
We know Jeff is still alive as he wants to install Ben’s new computer next week.
Mike didn’t grow up with Jack.

If Jack, Dan, Ben and Jeff are still alive, then Mike is dead.
So we can deduce that Jeff is the killer.

5. It was Mark. The note said “? Crimson”, which can be read as “Question Mark”.

6. Someone in a wheelchair.

7. The absence of the Tuesday and Wednesday papers indicates that the wallet knew the man was dead, so there would be no one to read the publication.

8. The man had booked a round-trip ticket for himself, but only one way for his friend.

9. If it’s summer in California, then it’s winter in Argentina. The man had sunburn, so he couldn’t have come to South America. He stayed in the USA.

10. The answer is “A”. People with lower incomes tend to spend more on items that make them look richer, such as high heels, flashy clothing (considered an even greater advantage when displaying the brand name) and heavy makeup. Generally speaking, they spend more than they earn, which is why a full fridge in a house where one woman lives can reveal the truth.

11. The woman in the red dress is lying. She doesn’t wear a wedding ring.

12. The family on the left is poor. People with lower incomes tend to invest in cheap but high-calorie foods such as pizza, ice cream and pies. A family with higher purchasing power tends to prefer more nutritious foods, such as vegetables, proteins and fruits, although that doesn’t mean they can’t eat a pie occasionally.

13. The woman in the yellow dress is the thief.

The clue indicates that the perpetrator is not the child. The toy store doesn’t sell little teddy bears like the one the mother carries in her bag, nor bunnies like the man carries in the bag.

The store sells balls, and the woman in the yellow dress is carrying one of them hidden under her clothes, so she appears to be pregnant.
