O awesome.club analyzed photos of homes of young Internet users, their stories and the notes of interior designers, and came to the conclusion that the opinions of different generations about home comfort are very different.

Big family feasts or dinners with friends where someone “worked hard” in the kitchen are a thing of the past. Today’s young people prefer quick snacks, ready meals and delivery services. That’s why, in planned apartments, the kitchen is usually integrated into the living room — the concept of American cuisine is very popular among people in this age group. The era of cupboards full of dishes is also over. All you need is a couple of favorite plates, mugs for each member of the family and a set of cooler plates in case the family has guests. The same goes for tablecloths, sideboards and cloth napkins. No big kits. The less the better.

Young people may not have a specific workplace, despite the fact that, in most cases, they work remotely. With a laptop, they can sit comfortably at the kitchen table, on a coffee table or even on a sofa, placing the device on their lap. And even if the home still has a well-defined workspace, it will hardly have the traditional office feel that the older generation often aspires to.

Representatives of the new generation are increasingly living in small apartments, and often they simply do not have a place to cram as much furniture as their parents would have done. They do, however, value personal space.🇧🇷 If they still live with their family, they can adopt unusual solutions to guarantee this “little corner”, for example, creating a cozy “nest”, as in the photo above. And why not?

Young people are not usually conservative with their choice of colors. They are not afraid even of dark tones, which “steal” a little visual space, but, on the other hand, make the room cozy. And even those who opt for lighter shades they do it with style, thinking about comfort, not pleasing other people.

Young people are aware of health and accompany technological progress. Air handling units, purifiers and humidifiers… all of these can be found far more often in your apartments than in those of your parents and grandparents. There are even those who invest in carbon monoxide detectors, which help monitor security.

Excessively fancy but uncomfortable sofas are a missing item in new generation homes. If you find one of these in the home of a “zoomer” (representative of the so-called “generation Z”), it’s probably because he hasn’t had time to change it yet. Today, young people choose to use the practical sofas with a minimalist design, folding and with removable covers. Also, instead of a standard armchair, they use puffs.

The use of natural materials and selective garbage collection they have not been new for a long time, but young people from the new generations are even more aware of this. For example, you can find, in their homes, unusual furniture made from reused materials. And selective collection has existed for a long time among them, even when no law requires it.

Born in an era marked by information overload, Zoomers value privacy. “Enjoying” the light of infinite banners and car headlights is seen naturally, but only from the front door. Home, on the other hand, should be a kind of fortress that protects from all of that. For baby boomers and representatives of generation X, the TV is still the central object in the room, where the whole family can gather. For younger people, however, television has given way to computers and electronic gadgets. Even those who have it use it as a video game screen, and, less often, to watch streaming services like Netflix. The older generation is used to growing seedlings or aromatic plants the old-fashioned way, in pots on the windowsill or in corners that receive a little sun — in the case of smaller apartments. Sometimes, these small vegetable gardens attract the attention of passers-by on the street who look at apartment windows. Concerned about the Environment, Zoomers also enjoy growing fresh herbs.
