12 TV Shows That Were Very Successful, But Their Ending Disappointed Viewers

Making a series successful with ratings is a difficult task. And even after many successful seasons, the production can end up with a disappointing end at the last moment. On the other hand, after months of watching, the viewer also expects intelligible solutions to all the mysteries of the plot and that their favorite characters have, if not a concise ending, then at least a logical conclusion in the story.

we, from awesome.club, we collected opinions from fans of series acclaimed by public opinion, but who regretted watching the whole story until the end. We warn you that it contains spoilers, so if you haven’t finished some of the selected series, we’re sorry. Check out!

castle

The eighth season of the series ended with a shooting scene in the protagonist’s house. Castle and Beckett injured, lying on the floor, trying to hold hands with each other. This scene was a great thriller—it left an open ending to leave viewers impatiently waiting for the sequel.

But as the producers decided not to renew the show literally at the last minute, they had to finalize the plot. And the audience had an accelerated ending. The latest episodes show the events seven years after the tragedy: Castle and Beckett are alive, happy and have children. Fans didn’t want an unhappy ending for the characters, but it was clearly rushed work, which ended up not pleasing viewers.

How I Met Your Mother (How I Met Your Mother)

Viewers waited nine seasons to finally find out who the mother of the protagonist’s children was. And as a result, she turned out to be a completely new character, and, moreover, that she was instantly taken out of the game: the writers awarded her an incurable disease. But the worst thing for fans was that Ted ended up with Robin in the end. Thus, they practically betrayed the public. Fans felt that such an ending devalued the entire series: everything that happened to the characters, the changes in their attitudes, the ups and downs of life — it all became completely meaningless.

Imagine watching this show for years and last season it all literally went down the drain, but you think it’s worth it to keep watching just to see the finale. And it ended up being a slap in the face to the fans. © CommonCullen / RedditI was a huge fan of the show, although the last two seasons haven’t been so great, he was curious as to how it would all turn out. Then came the end, I got excited… And Jesus, it was awful. Writers should be ashamed. © imNTR / Reddit

lost

Lost revolutionized the entertainment world. In many ways, serials have become as big as movies thanks to this show: a great production, strong cast, and huge profits. But the end of the show was a real disappointment for the fans.

For six seasons, fans have waited for answers to very important questions and theorized about it all for years. And what was the end? An unexpected turn from the final events to something totally random. And when you consider that some fans questioned the writers early on if the story had anything to do with the idea of purgatory and they denied that possibility, people felt totally misled.

All the mysteries of the first seasons, which had everyone anxious, turned out to be completely meaningless because of the ending. © powa *** / reddit The ending was so horrible it made me hate the show and feel cheated by the writers and producers, so I wouldn’t recommend anyone to watch it. It was bad that way. When I started watching it I thought it would be the best series ever made. © elhombre***** / Reddit

Game of Thrones (Game of Thrones)

There was no way not to hear about this series while it was on air: it was discussed at home, at work and on social media. Even those who didn’t watch the show knew the characters by sight and by name. Game of Thrones was a resounding success for 8 years, forcing fans to make thousands of theories and praise the work of the writers: each character was properly thought out, their development was justified and had unexpected twists that made perfect sense. In the final season, the virtually invincible Night King and his entire army were defeated with the snap of a finger, the change in Daenerys’ personality was very sudden and the character who took power caused a flurry of questioning among fans.

I still hope they release an alternate ending where the White Walkers defeat them all. © NewClayburn / RedditThe Game of Thrones finale is so bad it killed the show as a cultural phenomenon. Do you remember a few years ago everyone watched the show, including pets? Those people who “don’t like fantasy stuff” were commenting on their theories about what would happen next, colleagues at lunch were discussing who would take the Iron Throne. Then season 8 happened — and puff, it’s over. © redditorperth / Reddit

Supernatural (Supernatural)

The story of two brothers, sons of a hunter of evil creatures, lasted 15 seasons. The series’ fan club was considered one of the largest and most dedicated. Over the course of the show, the heroes more than once ended up on the other side of life, but the writers always found a way to bring them back. And the end has come. One of the main characters, during a battle with a considerably weak enemy, accidentally bumps into a rusty rebar, ending his journey on the earth plane. Fans were ready to accept the disappointing end of the last epic fight, but the ridiculous way it all turned out pissed everyone off.

To be honest, I really didn’t like it. It felt like the writers just gave up on the characters and wanted to find a quicker way to end things. For example, Dean died from a rusty rebar in a fight with some clown vampires. This all comes just a week after the heroes finally defeated heaven, hell, and everything in between. I think the penultimate episode would be a much better ending because it would give the viewer the opportunity to speculate if the brothers continued to do something great or if they found peace in life. © stickandberries / Reddit

The Mentalist (The Mentalist)

One of the main mysteries that kept the viewers’ attention on the series for 5 seasons was the identity of the main antagonist — Red John. The answer was given in Season 6 Episode 8 and it was incredibly disappointing for fans. The following episodes and the other short season failed to return the series to the previous level.

While Red John’s identity was acceptable, the way it was revealed was absolutely terrifying. Also, the writers gave a very simple explanation for all of his actions in previous seasons. © Dondadondadonda / Reddit

Sherlock

“What was this?” — that was probably the question many Sherlock fans asked themselves after watching season four. The beauty of the series was that viewers were as eager to find clues as the detective was, but they were also fascinated by the way the writers handled them. Also, the main antagonist — Dr. Moriarty — which aroused a lot of sympathy from fans, and many waited to see how he would return to the plot, which the writers implied quite explicitly. In season four, the “highly functioning sociopath” has become a good person, and Moriarty — just a vague memory of the past.

Two and a Half Men (Two and a Half Men)

The sitcom was a hit for several years on the CBS channel. But the scandal that led to the departure of Charlie Sheen, who had played the main character all these years, ended up affecting the series. While a large portion of the audience remained loyal to the show even after Ashton Kutcher’s Walden Schmidt replaced Charlie Harper, ratings plummeted and showrunner Chuck Lorre continued on without Sheen. The reckoning between the two was the focus of the last episode, which ended up disappointing the audience.

Penny Dreadful

This dark and elegant series has appealed to fans of Gothic stories: the charm of Victorian England, the beautiful Eva Green as the enigmatic Vanessa Ives, the forces of evil represented by iconic characters from horror stories. The series seemed destined to be long-running, but it was canceled in season three and, for fans, it was all rushed. Although the ending is full of amazing scenes and almost every story has an ending, there are still many questions and a slight bitter taste of disappointment.

Penny Dreadful was amazing. This entire season has an atmosphere of unknown and terrible things happening overnight, creating a sense of dread and wonder. Gossip Girl: The Blog Girl

Fans of this youth drama about New York’s wealthy elite have wondered for six seasons who the mysterious omniscient blogger was, whose posts had all the main characters intrigued. In the end, everyone ended up being disappointed with how the stories unfolded. Even actor Penn Badgley, who played the character who hid under the alias of Gossip Girl, said in an interview that he himself found such a decision ridiculous, as the show never left any clues as to how the story would unfold. Turns out the writers couldn’t stop the internal intrigue and did a lot of silly stuff in the end.

scrubs

Fans considered the show’s Season 8 finale to be perfect. However, the creators of the show did not stop at it and wanted to do a new cycle with new characters. This decision did not please the fans, and the series immediately sank in the audience, so that now there are few who follow the development of the new plot.

Season nine could have been a standalone series, with the old characters showing up…
