Washing clothes can be one of the most boring household chores, but it can’t be ignored. While progress doesn’t stop and engineers come up with things like washing machines that can be controlled over the internet, this process doesn’t get any more fun anyway. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that an average person spends 17 minutes a day washing clothes. In this post, we will talk about the tricks that can significantly reduce the time spent on this tedious housework.
O awesome.club prepared a list of tips with which washing will become a much simpler and faster process.
1. Use mouthwash to clean the washer
The washing machine needs regular care and disinfection, otherwise its lifespan will be shortened. For this task you can use not only specialized products, but also mouthwash. Simply add 1/2 cup of the liquid to the detergent powder container and turn on the full wash cycle. Mold, harmful bacteria and bad smell will be eliminated.
2. Use fabric bags to wash socks
When washing a lot of clothes, you face the riddle of missing socks. Scientists Simon Moore and Geoff Ellis even developed a formula that explains the mysterious loss of parts in the washing machine.
However, those who are more experienced in the arduous task of washing clothes advise purchasing separate bags to wash each family member’s small items. Then the problem of unpaired clothes will be solved without difficult mathematical calculations.
3. Don’t dry your clothes too much
It is very difficult to perfectly iron clothes that have dried for much longer than they should. The fabric fibers are spun and acquire strength on thermal exposure. In complicated situations, not even the steam iron can solve this task. It’s best to iron clothes that are still a little wet, and if the problem still persists and your clothes don’t seem easy to iron, simply dampen them with water.
4. Use baby shampoo to return the shrunk clothes to their original condition
This may sound strange, but children’s shampoo and conditioner are able to return shrunk clothes to their original size and condition. Simply add a cap of the product to a bowl of warm water and soak the garment for 10-15 minutes, then towel dry it and hang it on a horizontal surface for final drying. The conditioner will pass through the fibers that were stiffened and give them their initial volume.
5. Do not use fabric softener to wash white clothes
Experts do not recommend adding fabric softeners when washing white clothes, as this prevents bleaching. If your goal is a perfect white color, then it is necessary to reject not only fabric softener, but also powder detergent, and when washing, add only a special bleach. Foreign components clog fabric fibers and prevent bleach penetration and operation.
6. Do not sort clothes by color
Do not separate clothes according to color, but according to the density of the material. Heavy fabrics absorb more water than light fabrics. Therefore, powder detergent is more difficult to remove on different fabrics, and in addition, a mixed wash spoils fine fiber garments. However, it is worth remembering two exceptions to this rule:
It is always necessary to wash white clothes separately. The temperature should not exceed 30°C, otherwise washing clothes of different colors will cause them to fade.
7. Place aluminum foil balls in the washing machine drum
To forget about the problem of clothes with static electricity forever, put aluminum foil balls inside the washing machine, as aluminum is capable of absorbing electrostatic energy.
8. Eliminate traces of cosmetics from clothes with the help of shaving foam
Cosmetic traces are sometimes impossible to remove with normal products, as the fabric absorbs the concealer cream and lipstick. But this task is easily solved with a normal shaving foam. Simply place it on the stain and wash it with the usual method: by hand or in a washing machine.
9. Wash caps in the dishwasher
So that the caps do not lose their original shape, it is not recommended that they be washed in a washing machine. The way out is simple: these clothing items can be washed in a dishwasher. Place the caps on top of the dishwasher and run the full cycle.
10. Use cold water to wash dirty socks
Socks should not be washed in hot water, as most dirt is protein-based, such as sweat. When going through the effect of high temperatures, the protein is fixed and the dirt will remain forever in the fibers of the fabric. So, despite popular belief, washing socks in cold water is more effective.
11. Eliminate persistent stains with the help of a dryer
To remove old stains of non-protein origin, such as grass, dirt and juice, they can be heated with the dryer and a small amount of detergent placed on the soiled area. After this procedure, the piece can be washed. Raising the local temperature will allow the detergent powder ingredients to react more effectively.
12. Use dry towels to dry clothes faster
Laundry may dry faster if it is placed between towels. If it’s a little wet but you urgently need to get out of the house, wrap it in a dry, terry towel and put it in the washing machine on spin mode. This will help remove traces of moisture.
