12 Proofs Steve Irwin Was a Unique Human Being

TV star, animal keeper and crocodile hunter: chances are you’re familiar with Steve Irwin’s work. His unquestionable charisma and interest in wildlife conservation won the public’s favor because of a television program that was broadcast in over 130 countries. However, this celebrity had a personality with so many quirks that you might not know all of them.

The python that Steve Irwin got from his parents was 3.3 meters, and the then boy fell in love with it. Given this, it’s not exactly surprising to learn that, aged 9, Irwin was already learning from his father to “fight” against crocodiles.

This moment, in which Irwin revealed a multitasking facet, provoked a certain controversy. In one hand, he held a chicken carcass, ready to be devoured by a crocodile. In the other was Bob, his son, then one month old. After the episode, Irwin went on the show TODAY Show and apologized for scaring people, but assured her that her son was never in danger. For the adventurer, that was just a way of showing that he knew how to balance a radical life with protecting his family.

Despite always being brave, Irwin was not very fond of these birds. Although he admitted to feeling uncomfortable around them (mainly because of the pecking), he assured that he was always trying to build a better relationship with these animals.

Steve Irwin acquired vast areas in Australia, the USA, and also some islands in the Pacific, always with the aim of preserving wildlife and maintaining the protection of fauna in these regions.

Living close to animals has always been a reality for him, since his parents owned a property that housed a sanctuary for reptiles. Once grown up, Irwin owned the place and invested in its expansion. The business was so successful that today the place is known as the Australia Zoo.

During the recording of an episode, Steve Irwin discovered that 2 divers had disappeared in that same region. He dropped everything to help with the searches, and managed to save the life of one of them: Scott Jones, who was found on top of a rock. That diver is certainly still grateful every day for meeting Irwin on his way.

Since both Irwin and his wife had jobs dealing with wildlife, they decided wearing wedding bands wasn’t the best idea. After all, they could end up disrupting the routine and even hurting the animals they dealt with.

Because of this, the animal earned the name “Irwin’s Tortoise”. And as if that were not enough, there is also a snail called “crikey steveirwini”, inspired by the name of the adventurer and his catchphrase.

This happened several times. Irwin received the Centenary Medal for his work for global conservation and promoting tourism in Australia. In addition, he was nominated for Australian of the Year.
