12 Disney Princesses played in the movies by great actresses

We grew up watching Disney animated movies with stories full of wizards, princesses, princes and enchanted creatures. And when a new version of these stories hits the big screen, starring real people (instead of drawings and special effects), most people are curious to see the result. And in retrospect, the stories of celebrities who brought these princesses to life are countless.

1. Emma Watson

In the version of Beauty and the Beast released in 2017, actress Emma Watson took on the role of the protagonist. Emma did a great job playing the different girl from the village who falls in love with a Beast, not for his physical appearance, but for what he really is.

Fun fact: Emma Watson turned down the role of Cinderella shortly before, as she didn’t want to play a fragile princess. With Bela it was the opposite, since she accepted to play her precisely because she is an independent woman, with a curious and open mind and for considering her a good role model.

2. Lily James

The English actress, who worked on the series Downton Abbey🇧🇷 was chosen by Disney Studios in 2015 to play Cinderella. Lily, for her great sweetness and elegance, was the perfect choice for the role, as well as giving personality and temperament to the princess who lost a shoe.

Fun fact: as we mentioned, this role was initially offered to Emma Watson, who turned it down to play Belle. Lily James got the role by chance, as she had been cast to play one of the evil sisters.

3. Lily Collins

A classic tale by the Brothers Grimm, “Snow White” has returned to the big screen with a new style and several plot twists. Lily plays the princess banished to the forest by her evil stepmother, who will take command of the kingdom, taking all the girl’s riches. In the forest, Snow White will meet the seven dwarf warriors who will help her claim what is rightfully hers.

Fun fact: during a fight scene between the evil queen and stepmother (Julia Roberts) and Snow White, the former accidentally ripped off a piece of the actress who played the princess.

4. Liu Yifei

The 33-year-old singer and actress was chosen by Disney to play the warrior Mulan, among thousands of candidates. The young woman personally recorded 90% of the action scenes in the film, riding a horse, fighting with a sword and showing off her martial arts skills.

Fun fact: Some of the character names have been changed to look more realistic, such as Fa Mulan for Hua Mulan, Shan Yu for Böri Khan, Li Shang for Chen Honghui, Chien Po for simply Po, and Fa Zhou (Mulan’s father) for Hua Zhou .

5. Elle Fanning

The movie Maleficent was a box office success all over the world, both for its innovative story and for having a great cast. In this case, the person in charge of giving life to Princess Aurora, both in the first feature and in the sequel, was Elle Fanning, lavishing talent with a neat interpretation of the princess who stuck her finger in the spinning wheel.

Fun fact: who incarnated Princess Aurora as a child was Vivienne Jolie-Pitt, the 5-year-old daughter of Angelina Jolie (Maleficent) and Brad Pitt.

6. Naomi Scott

The 2019 movie Aladdin was one of the remakes Disney’s most anticipated. In this version we can see a great and fun genius played by Will Smith, lots of songs and lots of action. Naomi Scott was in charge of giving life to the beautiful Jasmine, who, with the help of Aladdin, will save her people and her father from the evil Jafar.

Fun fact: in one of the scenes in the movie, we can see Aladdin’s magic carpet making a castle in the sand. This castle is a faithful copy of what appears in the introduction to Disney productions.

7. Mia Wasikowska

In Alice Through the Looking Glass, director James Bobin decided to keep his bet on the previously unknown Australian actress Mia Wasikowska, who debuted as a protagonist in the first part of the feature. This was the first major role in her career. And she undoubtedly did an excellent job of acting.

Fun fact: six actors in the saga Harry Potter working on this film: Helena Bonham Carter, Frances de la Tour, Alan Rickman, Timothy Spall, Rhys Ifans and Paul Whitehouse.

8. Kristen Stewart

In the 2012 film Snow White and the Huntsman, we can appreciate Kristen Stewart playing the role of a much more warrior, decisive and independent princess than what we are used to seeing. In addition, in this film there are also changes in relation to the original story.

Fun fact: Stewart had to overcome her fear of horses (due to a fall she suffered as a child, in which she fractured her elbow) to shoot the action scenes.

9. Drew Barrymore

forever Cinderella was one of the first films to depict the story of a princess with real characters, and it also underwent some changes from the original script. In this version, set in Middle Ages France, Cinderella (Drew Barrymore) is mistreated by her evil stepmother, but thanks to her intelligence and courage, she will find her way and meet Prince Henry.

Fun fact: the famous actress has stated on several occasions that this is her favorite movie among all those in which she has acted.

10. Léa Seydoux

French cinema also produced, in 2014, its adaptation of Beauty and the Beast, in which Léa Seydoux played Belle. In this film, the Parisian actress showed her great versatility, creative freedom and a lot of elegance.

Fun fact: the story of Beauty and the Beast has been taken to the movies on more than 12 occasions.

11. MacKenzie Mauzy

MacKenzie, who used to appear in American soap operas and series, was chosen to play Rapunzel, the long-haired princess, in Into the Woods.🇧🇷 The film is Disney’s version of the musical of the same name.

Fun fact: the film is the first Disney-produced adaptation of a Broadway musical.

12. Anna Kendrick

Anna Kendrick is already a constant presence in the musicals and does not disappoint with her portrayal of Cinderella in the film. Forest Paths. The actress shares credits with artists such as Meryl Streep and Johnny Depp.

Fun fact: the sets were so real and so perfect that when Anna Kendrick and Chris Pine walked on set, they wanted to stay together so they wouldn’t get separated or lost from the rest of the group.
