11 Musicians Who Were Successful In The Past But Ended Up Leaving The Media

Many of the songs in our today’s article played relentlessly everywhere, on the radio, in clubs, and we couldn’t wait to watch the music videos on MTV. However, the singers of some of these hits simply disappeared from the media. And after 20 — 30 years, we know virtually nothing about them anymore, even though their songs still play from time to time on our playlists.

We, from awesome.club, we decided to find out how the singers who released unforgettable songs a few decades ago are doing today, but were unable to repeat their success with other works. Maybe some names sound strange, but if you open the link and listen to the music, you’ll soon remember. Check out!

Natalie Imbruglia – Torn (1993)

Before joining the music career, Natalie was famous as an actress. After the success of the song Torn, she released another album and won several awards, but soon the singer’s career began to decline. She starred in several films, was the face of several cosmetic and clothing brands. The star briefly dated David Schwimmer, and married a musician in 2003, but the marriage lasted just five years.

In 2019, 44-year-old Natalie gave birth to her first child, who was conceived using IVF. Nowadays, the singer continues to make music, participates in various television projects and is still dedicated to charity.

Ardis is originally from the Dominican Republic, but rose to fame after moving to Sweden, which in the 1990s was, as is well known, a production factory for pop artists. The song Ain’t Nobody’s Business conquered the top of the European and American charts, and even became the theme song for the film V for Vendetta.

Fans remember Ardis for his gapped teeth and unusual voice. Swedish journalists tried to find out more about her personal life, but it remained a closely guarded secret. Ardis made her last public appearance in 2002 while recording an album, but little has been known about her since. The last photo that the singer posted on her Facebook account was in 2012. According to some information, the singer lives and works in Los Angeles.

The original lineup had five members. In addition to the most famous song, Cotton-Eyed Joe, which played frantically in all clubs, the band had three more hits in the 1990s. Although the musicians play country and appropriate the image of cowboys, they are Swedish.

In 1997, due to disagreements, the only vocalist in the lineup at the time, Annika Ljungberg, left the group, and the rest of the band decided to take a long break. They tried to work with other singers, but it didn’t work out very well.

After several line-up changes and the temporary return of Annika in 2018, the group now has 17 musicians, which allowed them to vary the band line-up for different performances. They continue to work and are touring and performing at various festivals. In June, Rednex played a show in Norway.

The hit from the album of the same name brought Coolio unprecedented popularity and a Grammy Award, as well as becoming a rap classic. The song continues to be used in movies and games. And although the rapper has not been able to score any more successful singles or albums, the laurels of a single song were enough to give him a comfortable life until today.

After the success of the album in 1995, Coolio was even invited to roles in the world of cinema. For example, in the movie Daredevil — The Man Without Fear, he played the character Daunte Jackson; played himself in the Black Jesus series; and voiced some episodes of the animated series Futurama, as well as several other television shows.

In 2014, the singer and his partner Mimi were invited to participate in a reality show called Celebrity Wife Swap. After living in a house with another man, Mimi realized that she deserved better and left the rapper. Currently, Coolio remains single and does charity work, mainly helping asthmatics, as he suffers from the disease.

No disco, birthday party or any other celebration in the latter half of the 1990s was complete without a performance of this song. After her resounding success, Toni Braxton continued to make music, releasing several successful albums and singles and winning many awards.

In the early 2000s, Toni had two children. Her second child was diagnosed with autism, prompting the singer to join the Autism Speaks organization. Currently, Braxton continues her career, appears on several television shows, is involved in producing television projects and is dating rapper Birdman.

The group is made up of three brothers — Isaac, Taylor and Zac, and at the time of the release of the album Middle of Nowhere, which earned three Grammy nominations, they were 17, 14, and 12 years old, respectively. A cheerful melody, vibrant voices and handsome young men conquered teenagers around the world, and the song stayed in the charts for a long time.

Oldest brother Isaac and middle brother Taylor found happiness in love through the band — both are married to fans. Zac is also married. The brothers continue with the band, but no further albums or singles charted. They seem to be more successful at parenting: the three brothers have 15 children in total.

Emilia Rydberg is originally from Sweden. In 1996, the son of ABBA manager Lars Anderson was the one who revealed it. After her song Big Big World became a hit, Emilia decided to take her father’s surname, the famous Ethiopian singer Mitiku. In 2009, the singer participated in the contest to represent Sweden in Eurovision, but ended up in ninth place.

Her last album was released in 2012, but her website hasn’t been updated in seven years and the singer rarely performs. In 2013, she gave birth to a son and decided to take a long break from her career; she is now almost never seen in the media, but occasionally appears at social events.

Mambo No. 5 is a remake of an old hit by Pérez Prado. Lou Bega, although a strong representative of Latin music, is born in Germany. Immediately upon release, the single reached number one on the charts in most European countries. The singer’s subsequent albums were not as commercially successful, and some did not even enter the charts.

During his career, Lou Bega has managed to become a character in a computer game, recorded for the soundtrack of a Disney series and, in 2019, released the track Scatman & Hatman, in honor of Scatman John. These days, the singer lives in Berlin with his daughter and wife.

Sonique is a British singer and DJ who released some hits in the early 2000s: It Feels So Good, Sky, I Put a Spell on You and Can’t Make up My Mind, for which she won a prestigious Brit Award.

The following years were not easy for the singer. In 2002, she lost her baby in the eighth month of pregnancy, and in 2009, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Sonique underwent treatment for several months, and in 2011 she announced that the disease had been controlled.

Alizée became known to the public at the time as Lolita. She was only 16 years old when she shot the music video for Moi… Lolita. By the way, the lyrics were written by Mylène Farmer. The single became a huge hit and charted for six months. After that, Alizée released a few more songs that weren’t that successful.

The singer continues to study music, regularly performing in France and other European countries. In addition, she always participates in benefit concerts, enjoys Thai boxing and has two children. She is currently married to a professional dancer, with whom she participated on Dancing with the Stars.

The Swedish singer-songwriter became famous after the release of the song One in a Million, which became the main theme of the film Miss Congeniality, starring Sandra Bullock. On the wave of success, he managed to score another single, You Opened My Eyes, and then disappeared from the media for a long time. Bosson was extremely popular and performed extensively in former Soviet bloc countries, but in western countries his popularity began to wane.

Bosson released his last studio album in 2013, but he still regularly gives concerts in Eastern European countries, where he shoots videos with local artists, performs in joint concerts and is a judge in various competitions.
