we, from awesome.club, we separated 11 soap operas that continue to be the darlings of the public, even after two decades. We did a kind of timeline from the 2000s and we hope you like it. Check out!

passionate (2010)

A soap opera set between Brazil and Italy, it had a more melodramatic style, mixing romance and action, and marked the end of a decade. With important names in its cast, such as Tony Ramos, Fernanda Montenegro and Mariana Ximenes, the main story was about a mother (Bete) who believed that her son (Totó) had died in childbirth. In fact, he was alive and living in another country. Much time has passed and, as an adult, Totó falls in love with a young Brazilian woman (Clara), who knew all about his history and wanted to take advantage of him.

A nice curiosity about the soap opera is that the actor Tony Ramos went to Italy before the recordings started in order to better adapt to the climate, “get into” the character, incorporate the well-known Italian accent and dive headfirst into this story.

Way of the Indies (2009)

One of Rede Globo’s biggest hits, the work brought the connections between Brazil and India, as the name implies. It was possible to get to know the super interesting and totally different culture of another country, its behaviors, its slang and many other details.

With Juliana Paes (Maya), Márcio Garcia (Bahuan) and Rodrigo Lombardi (Raj) as protagonists, the work showed the customs of an Indian wedding, the culture of families in that country and the respective difficulties of a passion when it is not accepted by the society. As the plot unfolded, many conflicts were generated due to numerous family secrets that ended up being revealed (mainly in the Indian core).

In fact, this was a special treat for viewers and soap operas on duty. Actors and part of the team came to participate in workshops to familiarize themselves with Indian culture. Many of us have incorporated (even if for a while) expressions like Are Baba (Wow!), atcha (expression of satisfaction) or baguan kelie (My God!), remember?

The favorite (2008)

The story unfolded around the life and rivalry of the main characters, Donatela (Claudia Raia) and Flora (Patrícia Pillar). In the past they were great friends and formed a country duo. But sometime back there, there was a murder and Flora was accused, tried and arrested as being guilty of what happened.

Time passed, Flora got out of prison and started looking for her family and friends to try to prove her innocence, recover her daughter and return to her normal life, but Donatela got in the way of all her plans. At the end of the telenovela, the audience found itself surrounded by big surprises, a lot of drama and a lot of action… and that left many people with their eyes glued to the small screen.

Tropical paradise (2007)

One of the most acclaimed works of the year 2007 — it was even nominated for an International Emmy — Paraíso Tropical featured big names such as Tony Ramos, Fábio Assunção, Camila Pitanga and Wagner Moura in the cast.

The story took place between Bahia and Rio de Janeiro and told the story of a wealthy businessman (Antenor) who lost his only son at a very young age and was looking for a new heir for his companies. The caretaker’s son (Daniel) was very attached to the businessman, and had to face the fury of Antenor’s nephew (Olavo) to fight for his position in the leadership of the companies. Ambitious people, socialites, twins separated at birth were just an extra spice in the whole plot.

One of the best-known phrases of the soap opera, said by the character Bebel (Camila Pitanga), “I am a woman of ‘catiguria’”, became a catchphrase, remembered by many to this day. Bebel and Olavo formed one of the most loved couples by the public, and everyone wanted them to have a happy ending.

snakes and lizards (2006)

The plot took place in Rio de Janeiro and told the story of Omar (Francisco Cuoco). A simple, honest man of humble origins, he made a fortune and became the owner of the most luxurious articles store in the country – the luxury🇧🇷

Omar discovered that he was very sick and had little time to live, so he disguised himself as a janitor to test some people’s character, while trying to find his possible heir, as he didn’t want to leave his entire empire to his sister and nephews. Two characters in the plot had the same name, “Daniel Miranda”. One of them, Duda, was a friend of the late store owner, but met him only when he was in disguise, not imagining his true identity. On the other hand, the “other Daniel”, Foguinho (played by Lázaro Ramos) took advantage of the fact that Omar left his fortune to his namesake and took over the empire. He had to deal with Leona’s (Carolina Dieckmann) blackmail and scheming and the interest of the other crooks that surrounded him. That is, the novel was full of impressive situations and surprises.

America (2005)

The young Sol (Deborah Secco) was in love with the rodeo rider Tião (Murilo Benício) and had a dream of going to live in the United States. However, as she couldn’t get her visa approved, the girl tried to enter the country illegally through the Mexican border… not once, not twice, but several times. After reaching the dreamed “America”, she sought to give her family a better life. She started working at a nightclub, met a young American and fell in love with him. However, she never forgot her childhood love, Tião, who continued to live in Brazil.

In preparation for this work, the actors had to familiarize themselves with various situations, such as the way an illegal immigrant was treated in the United States. Deborah Secco even worked at a famous fast-food chain, served customers and even washed the floors. She was also a babysitter and waitress for a day. América revolutionized the telenovela market: it was the first to be recorded in high definition (HD).

Lady of destination (2004)

The soap opera revolved around the story of Northeastern Maria do Carmo (Suzana Vieira) and her five children. She left the Pernambuco hinterland towards Rio de Janeiro looking for a better life opportunity and hoped to be able to be helped by her brother Sebastião during this time of great need. Due to a series of misadventures, she was unable to find him so she arrived in Rio de Janeiro and took shelter in an abandoned house. In this place, something very important for the rest of the plot happened: the villain Nazaré (Renata Sorrah) took advantage of Maria do Carmo’s kindness and fragility and stole her daughter shortly after birth. Throughout the entire plot, the protagonist searched for her beloved missing daughter.

A cool curiosity is that the names of the protagonist, Maria do Carmo, and her brother, Sebastião are homages, respectively, to the mother and uncle of the author of the work, Aguinaldo Silva, who, incidentally, is also from the Northeast.

Chocolate with pepper (2003)

Novel set in the 1920s told the story of the suffering Ana Francisca (Mariana Ximenes). After losing her parents, the young woman moved to the fictional city of Ventura to live with her aunt and uncle. Since she arrived in the city, the girl has been harassed by most people there, even for no reason. But, in the midst of this chaos, she met a good person: Mr. Ludovico (Ary Fontoura). He was a kind, sensitive and very wealthy man. In fact, the “Meninão” (as the main character called him) owned the city’s chocolate factory and decided to become Ana Francisca’s protector, including taking on the child she was expecting. When Ludovico died he left all his fortune to Ana. Much later, she returned to the city of Ventura, seeking revenge against all those who had humiliated her in the past.

Actress Laura Cardoso has already revealed that the work was extremely funny and everyone laughed during the recordings. And many times the actors had to interrupt the scenes because of all the laughter that rolled around the set. The actor who played the character of Margarido (Osmar Prado) said that he created his redneck accent thinking about his father, who grew up in the countryside of São Paulo.

Hope (2002)

At first, the telenovela was set in Italy, around the 1930s, and told the love story of the young couple Toni (Reynaldo Gianecchini) and Maria (Priscila Fantin). The lovers lived a forbidden love and, to try to stay together, they decided to flee to Brazil in search of happiness and a new life. However, Maria’s father prevented his daughter from continuing the journey, and only Toni embarked, but promised to return and look for his beloved. Shortly after her boyfriend’s departure, she discovered that she was expecting his child, but was eventually forced to marry an older man, Martino (José Mayer). Some time later, Maria had to flee to Brazilian lands with her current husband, who ended up being killed. After many setbacks during the plot, Maria and Toni met again and continued to live conflicts and fight for their beautiful love.

A curiosity about the work is that, at the beginning, the telenovela was imagined as a kind of continuation of Terra Nostrabut the author ended up giving up on the idea, however, he kept the subject “immigration” as the main key of his plot.

The clone (2001)

Set between Brazil and Morocco, the main themes of the plot were the impossible love between young people from different cultures, the fight against drugs and human cloning. Jade (Giovanna Antonelli) and Lucas (Murilo Benício) fell in love from the first time they saw each other, but the couple’s romance was not approved by family members, since Jade was Muslim and Lucas, Brazilian.

The telenovela also brought a series of catchphrases to the daily lives of Brazilians. After all, many remember expressions like Maktub (it was written), inshallah (God willing!), haram (sin), Habibi (dear) or even Jura’s famous catchphrase (Solange Couto): “It’s not a toy, no!”

The Carnation and the Rose (2000)

Novel that marked the debut of Walcyr Carrasco on Rede Globo, was a free adaptation of the work of William Shakespeare The Tamed Shrew, with some references from the work The Macho of the extinct TV Tupi. The plot narrated the story of two young people with totally different principles, but between fights, slaps and kisses, they ended up falling in love. The couple was Petruchio (Eduardo Moscovis), a rustic and rude boy, and Catarina (Adriana Esteves), a…
