11 mistakes in hair care that prevent you from having hydrated and shiny strands

There is an opinion that it is easier for men to be attractive: many of them, recognized as the most beautiful, are bald. Not to mention that, to look stylish, for most guys, it is enough to use a hair clipper, while girls have to come up with more and more new ways to take care of their cuts and hairstyles. However, for some reason, the result of these various tricks is not always pleasing to the eye.

We, from awesome.club, we learned from our own experience that sometimes the same hair care recipes are not suitable for all women who want to look beautiful. And although our hair styles need an individual approach, many people make some mistakes in this difficult matter of maintaining the beauty of locks.

Mistake #1: We wash our hair with cheap shampoo

Inexpensive shampoos can do a good job of removing impurities, but often that’s where the benefits tend to end. More expensive products add ingredients that facilitate care after washing and leave hair softer and more pleasant to the touch.

Mistake #2: We take too long to go to the hairdresser

On average, hair grows about 1 cm per month, but this number is not the same for all types and health conditions. It is recommended that short hair be trimmed a little more often than long hair: if bob and pixie cuts need to be trimmed every 4-6 weeks, then medium length and long hair should be cut every 8- 10 weeks.

Mistake #3: Using Henna Before Going to the Salon

Henna dyeing is the oldest way to change hair color, which was already used in ancient Egypt. While this feature is still popular around the world, plant-based dye can behave unpredictably on dyed and bleached hair.

I dye my hair with henna. The girl who taught me this method once decided to use henna immediately after bleaching. The result was terrible: her hair turned to straw. She decided to shave her head to let it grow from scratch. © mamblepamble / Reddit

I once assisted a client with brown hair who told me she hadn’t dyed it for several years. Her wish was to become a blonde. I was already starting to cover her head with aluminum foil and apply the lightening agent, when I noticed that the first strands to be lightened were taking on a “swamp green” hue. Mistake #4: We Don’t Avoid Tangled Hair

Tangled hair is the main enemy of a well-groomed hairstyle. It is believed that the dryness and dehydration of the strands leads to this state: their unprotected layers stick to each other, forming unpleasant tangles. Frequent coloring and bleaching also do not benefit: exposure to chemicals results in a reduction in the amount of hair proteins.

Mistake #5: Combing wet hair

Mistake #6: We don’t cut long, thin hair

Unfortunately, mother nature doesn’t always reward all women with long, strong hair. However, thin hair carriers should not despair: a proper cut and styling can transform even the weakest strands into a luxurious head of hair.

Pixie cut: Longer layers of hair help hold the shape of the hairstyle, while shorter layers add volume.

Mistake #7: We use the wrong hairbrushes

Not only can stress or an unhealthy diet lead to a noticeable reduction in the amount of hair, but the use of the most common brush or comb can also. Improper use contributes to excessive breakage and tangled hair. However, you can avoid some problems: just choose the right brush or comb and comb your hair, starting at the ends and working your way up to the roots.

I’m a hair stylist. Natural bristle brushes they are great for spreading the oiliness of the scalp through the hair, but they can harm the finer hair, especially if damp. These brushes are ideal for styling and smoothing thick strands.
To detangle damp hair, you will need a comb with wide teeth or a special brush for wet hair. This last option has very flexible bristles that do not damage the hair.
The wide massager brushes they are great for brushing and detangling your hair daily.
the ones with slits are suitable for drying. These options usually have nylon bristles.

Mistake #8: We wash our hair with hot water

Mistake #9: We dye gray hair

Gray hair has long acquired the status of a trend. No one is ashamed of them anymore, and international stars such as Lady Gaga and Rihanna diligently dye their hair in all shades of silver gray. The world is ruled by body positivity, so you can forget about coloring. At least for a while.

Mistake #10: We do total whitening

Although we sometimes believe that a fairy with scissors and tubes of paint can turn our lives 180°, in reality, total whitening can only lead to additional problems. It alters the internal structure of the hair fiber and dehydrates the hair, irrevocably transforming it into straw locks.

I’ve been going to the same hairdresser for 25 years who gave me a very useful tip. When painting, it is best to follow the rule of two tones: in the process, change to a maximum of two shades lighter or darker than the original. The change from dark brown to light is very harmful, due to aggressive lightening, and after that the hair will need special care. © Kathleen Alexandrakis / Quora

Mistake #11: We Switch Beauty Salons Too Often

The relationship with a personal hairdresser sometimes lasts longer than a career and even some marriages. Not by chance: the professional’s deep knowledge of all the characteristics of your hair allows you not only to choose a cut that fits your lifestyle, but also to keep your strands healthy and, consequently, not to waste money.

Do not constantly change salons. It’s much better to develop an ongoing relationship with a stylist who will get used to your hair and, as a result, know exactly which styles, colors and treatments are right for you. © Kathleen Alexandrakis / Quora
