Sometimes we use an object for many years, and only then do we realize that it has very useful additional functions. For example, the right margin of books and notebooks was created with the purpose of protecting the information in case the material was damaged by fire or rodents, since manuscripts were once quite expensive. And we imagined that that blank space was of no use.
O awesome.club revealed the secrets of “decorative details” of things that have unexpected and super useful functions.
1. Two small slits in the backpacks
Initially, these tongues were only part of tourist backpacks: ropes could be passed through the holes for those who liked to go hiking on trails. But if you’re in the city, you can hang an umbrella, a water bottle, or hook up your sneaker laces if you don’t have space in your backpack.
2. The little hole near the iPhone camera
The round hole on the back between the camera and the flash is a second microphone. It is used to isolate sound from ambient noises and to clean up speech during conversations.
3. Different toothpicks
Many people think it’s just an original design, but actually this Japanese model was designed so that you can break the top and make a holder for the chopsticks you are going to use during meals.
4. Protrusions on the keyboard
The bumps on the letters F and J act as a “guide” for those who can type without looking at the keyboard. These are the so-called primary keys, used to support the index fingers. Using these as references it is possible to quickly determine the correct position of the entire hand.
5. Holes in sneakers
The first such shoes were designed for basketball players. So that the athletes could make their shoes very firm on the foot, they needed holes on the side where the laces would pass. Some sneakers still retain this design. However, these holes only have one function these days — additional ventilation. But, if you want, you can still do it like old school basketball players.
6. The pointed end of the garlic press
The press not only serves to crush garlic, but also works as a pit remover for cherries and olives. The fruit is placed at the end of the handle and, by squeezing the handle, the pit is pushed out, keeping the olive or cherry intact.
7. Folds inside women’s underwear
When sewing the lining to the inside of the panty, the sides and back line up with the seams in the fabric. Technically, it is not possible to make a second internal seam on the other side, thus leaving a pocket-like opening. Of course, you can’t imagine anyone using this little feature as a real pocket. But this extra lining ends up serving as an additional protection for the woman’s body, in order to avoid direct contact with infectious agents.
8. Strips on the stylus blades
The blade tips of the stilettos can be broken so that the utensil is renewed, always being sharp. To do this, remove the cover from the back of the knife and take out the old blade.
9. Drawer under the oven
Some ovens have a sort of extra drawer at the bottom. Many people use it to store pots, lids and other kitchen utensils. However, in fact, such a device is called a warming box. It is designed to maintain the temperature of ready-to-eat foods and prevent them from rapidly cooling down while another food is cooking in the oven.
10. The hole in the spaghetti spoon
The hole in the spaghetti spoon was not invented by chance. It exists so that no one has to think about how much pasta needs to be cooked at one time. This hole represents the ideal amount of a serving for one person.
