10 Ways to give your home a bang without spending on repairs or expensive cleaning products

Who doesn’t like to walk around the house and realize that everything is clean, smelling good, with furniture and appliances looking like new? The problem is that we got used to the idea that, normally, taking care of small repairs is a job for professionals or, still, we think that, for an effective cleaning, it is necessary to use the most powerful products – and expensive ones! – from the market. However, there are those who say that you can have an impeccable house with few resources.

With that in mind, the team at awesome.club made a task force in search of cheap secrets to save time and pockets. And to make sure it worked, we personally tested some of them. Check with us the result of this work.

1. Recover wood stains without a joiner

You know that mark that was left on your nightstand because of a hot cup? Or that spot on the table where a few splashes of acetone fell that left the wood whitish? So, you don’t need to take it to a carpenter to repair it. You can recover the mobile at home!

To do this, you will need steel wool, a soft cloth and colorless paste wax. With the steel wool, rub the stain site, as if you were sanding. Then remove all surface dust with a wood cleaner and finish off with a colorless paste wax. Sounds too easy? And it is! But it’s important to know that this only works with more superficial stains, right?

2. Anti-mold with coarse salt and softener

Those who live in more humid regions know that mold can easily develop in cabinets and walls. To combat it, it is normal for people to invest in products and even devices against mold. However, the available budget is not always enough for these acquisitions, but if you have a small pot at home (you can even reuse the margarine), fabric softener and rock salt, you can now put this tip into practice.

3. Microwave without odor and grease with lemon pomace

It is good for health, helps with digestion and is refreshing. So, after seasoning the salad or making lemonade, how about taking advantage of the lemon pomace to give your microwave that general flavor? It only takes a few minutes to stop any grease spills and eliminate any odors from inside the oven.

It is very practical to do this. Place the pomace of a lemon in a small refractory, with water, and turn on the microwave for five minutes. Then use the yellow side of a sponge (without any product) to clean the inside. The steam from the water, together with the acid from the lemon, softens the fat and even deodorizes and disinfects the oven.

4. Stainless steel appliances shining with peroba oil

The stainless steel appliances are elegant, leaving the house with a touch of sophistication and modernity. However, they can be, at the same time, an ordeal for those who don’t like to see marks on the refrigerator doors, as the material gets stains very easily.

If you know what we’re talking about, know that you can leave your stainless steel appliances and utensils like an earring! After normal cleaning, put two drops – just two! — of peroba oil on a flannel or other cleaning cloth and pass over the surface of the piece. You won’t believe the result!

But be aware: this product cannot be used in appliances that have direct contact with fire. Thus, it is not appropriate to employ this technique on the stove, for example. In ovens, it can only be done on the outside.

5. Softer bath towels with bicarbonate

We are almost sure that you have already been disappointed when you realize that, even if you “do your best” with the use of fabric softener when washing bath towels, the result makes the garments even rougher. What many don’t even imagine is that fabric softener can be the villain of towels, as it creates a layer that prevents the passage of water to the fibers, leaving them more dry.

6. Glasses and mirrors shining with homemade cleaner

Have you ever imagined cleaning the windows and mirrors in your house with cornstarch? Seems like a joke, doesn’t it? However, it is possible to make your own window cleaner using this ingredient as a base, in addition to other products that you almost certainly already have around.

1/2 US cup of warm water • 1 tablespoon cornstarch • 1/4 US cup of alcohol vinegar.

To prepare, just dilute the cornstarch in warm water and then add the other ingredients. After mixing everything, you can put the product in a spray bottle to make it easier to apply. Simple, fast and without spending a fortune on window cleaners at the supermarket.

7. Waste-free sandwich maker using vinegar

If your sandwich maker is full of stuck-on residue and you are thinking of asking for the poor appliance to be retired, you will change your mind when you see this cleaning tip with alcohol vinegar. In addition to “saving” the piece in extreme cases, it can be done periodically, so as not to let food accumulate.

After using the sandwich maker, unplug it and, with the device still hot, spray white vinegar over the plates. Cover with a cloth moistened with water and leave the sandwich maker closed for about 15 minutes. When it is cold, use the same cloth to clean the device. It’s going to be a breeze!

8. Grease-free crockery with homemade detergent

From a bar of soap and other natural products you probably already have at home, you can make nearly two liters of your own dishwashing liquid and even other everyday cleaning supplies. The recipe is simple and will leave everything shiny and grease free. Here are the ingredients:

1.5 liters of water • Juice of 7 strained lemons • 1 bar of neutral soap • 1 tablespoon (of soup) of coconut milk — to give a special aroma • 1 spoon (of soup) of bicarbonate • 1 spoon (of soup) ) of salt • 1 tablespoon of sugar.

9. Unclog shower holes with vinegar

Nobody is free from it. Limestone residues present in city water, imperceptible to the naked eye, end up accumulating in the shower holes. As a result, the jet of water becomes weaker and the bath less invigorating. But instead of opening the shower to clean the hole by hole, you can resort to alcohol vinegar.

To do this, simply place the liquid inside a sturdy plastic bag, in sufficient quantity to cover the entire shower base. Then you need to secure it with an elastic band (it can even be an old hair elastic) and let it soak all night. In the morning, you will be amazed: you don’t even need to rub it. Just turn on the shower and the pressure itself will take care of putting all the dirt out and resume the normal flow of water for your shower.

Heads up: if your shower is electric, you need to disconnect it from the power supply before carrying out this procedure. Combined?

10. Clean the house from top to bottom

This tip is a way to buy time and prevent dust or dirt from returning to places that have already been cleaned. Thus, you still avoid wasting cleaning product by having to repeat the work in the same place.

By starting cleaning from the top down, you ensure that when it comes time to clean the floor, it will, in fact, be the final step in cleaning. So, the ideal step by step is to start cleaning the chandeliers and fans, with a good duster. Then move on to the closets, the windows, then the low furniture and finally the floor.
