New appliances and kitchen appliances appear in stores almost every day. Advertisements advise us to buy one more “very necessary” product, while we ourselves often keep in the kitchen various things that should have been thrown away a long time ago.
We, from awesome.club, we decided to do a little research and found 10 items that are not only useless, but can also sometimes harm our health. And it doesn’t matter what the commercials tell us.
teflon pans
The advantages of cooking in non-stick pans are obvious: the food does not burn, which allows us to save on oil for frying, not to mention that these utensils are easy to clean.
But all of these wonders have been overshadowed by scientific studies that have found that along with food prepared in a Teflon-coated pan, toxic chemicals enter the human body, which leak from the surface of the pan.
A lot of pots with spices
At first glance, the idea of putting a spice rack in the kitchen does not seem so bad. At least in terms of keeping things tidy. But our kitchen is not a picture from a magazine, but a working area where such a variety of spices, for everyday use, is simply not useful.
Unused jars just collect dust, and the shelf life of spices is not infinite. In the end, most of them will end up thrown in the trash.
fabric curtains
The kitchen is certainly not a place where we have to worry about fancy fabric curtains. They absorb food odors, quickly get dirty and sometimes get oil stains, so they need to be washed much more often than curtains in other rooms.
Fortunately these days there are other options for the kitchen, for example blinds or roller blinds, which don’t require so much work: just clean them with soapy water once a week.
plastic kitchen utensils
Plastic spoons, spatulas and whisks often attract our attention due to their design and low price. However, the safety of its use is questionable. When cooking, some types of plastic release substances that are harmful to human health.
High impact cleaning chemicals
In addition to some chemicals not mixing and matching, it is dangerous to store them near the oven or eating area. It’s best to put all your cleaning supplies in a separate box and store it in the pantry or at least a faraway cupboard. It is advisable to choose a higher shelf to protect children and animals from the risk of poisoning.
silicone sponge holder
A sponge holder seems to be the ideal solution. However, after use, it becomes clear that dirt, previously accumulated on the sponge, now remains on this support. Despite the drainage holes, water still remains inside the item, which leads to mold. In addition, the support is difficult to clean.
It’s better to change your kitchen sponge regularly than to suffer with a rather unhygienic holder.
griddle pan
The grill pan should be the home alternative to a barbecue grill. However, we only get imitation grill marks on the meat and a lot of problems with the cooking process itself.
The frying pan itself is quite large and does not always heat evenly. The cooking process is not so pleasant: there is a lot of smoke, the uneven surface makes the meat burn in some places and not roast in others. And, by the way, washing such a pan feels like torture.
Aluminum paper
We are used to using aluminum foil not only for storing food, but also for cooking it. However, research shows that this is not a good idea. Baked in the oven, the aluminum foil loosens the metal particles, which then pass into the food we eat. Considering the amount of such metal, it can be harmful to health.
ceramic tableware
Several studies have shown that using such dishes to serve food can be dangerous to health. Ceramics can serve for home decor or jewelry storage, for example. However, for food it is better to choose dishes made from other materials.
silicone molds
They are practically the same as the metal molds, except that in silicone the cupcakes are more moist and paler. Experience shows that the grease and dough particles that remain on the surfaces of these pans are very difficult to remove. Therefore, traditional metallic ones are even more practical.
