10+ Tips from a professional photographer to look good in photos

Good quality photos are eternal memories. And if you need to make numerous attempts to do well in one click, we have good news: there is something that can speed up the process. To ensure that all your photos come out beautiful, you need to know where to place your foot, how to tilt your head, and where to put your arm. On her blog, professional photographer Marina Khomenko, in addition to publishing her work, shares tips for posing.

Marina lives in Bali. Before moving to the island, she lived with her husband in a small Russian town, where they had their own business. However, 2 years ago, the couple decided to change their lives completely and the photographer publishes on Instagram some moments of this new life. And how the awesome.club loves high quality photos and believes that everyone should master some photography techniques, Marina’s work caught our attention.

How to relax in front of the camera

The fear of “paying mico” is one of our strongest fears. People often arrive very shy for their first photo shoot. Choose a photographer that makes you feel comfortable. Talk to him before the shots, tell him what you expect from the photos, and talk about your insecurities.

To control your emotions, breathe deeply: inhale through your nose, exhale through your mouth. Let the muscles relax. If so, take a few jumps and stretch. Don’t try to smile if you’re not sure your smile will look natural. During the photo shoot, don’t forget to move around constantly. Move your shoulders, your body, your head. Transfer your body weight from one leg to the other. But don’t be in a hurry: start by changing the position of your legs, then that of your arms and shoulders, look the other way, and so on. That way, you’ll have more chances of getting good images.

Who does the result depend on?

The photographer usually has much more responsibility. Therefore, he will always try to establish a relationship of trust, taking photos in a positive and relaxed environment. Also, a good professional will help you with the poses. Yes, it is possible to enjoy not only the results of the work (after the images have been retouched and published), but also the photo shoot itself. Relaxing and enjoying the moment does wonders for self-esteem. Choose the “right” photographer, and you’ll certainly feel like heading back to the studio for new shoots.

How to disguise imperfections in the silhouette

Keep your back straight, with shoulders in line. Arch your back backwards, gaining a slender silhouette. When taking a profile picture, don’t let your arms “glued” to your body: even if your forearm is thin, it will look weird in the image. Pay attention to the feet – try to stretch the tip. The body must be at an angle to the camera. Arms away from the body allow the waist to show. To make your legs look longer, try turning them slightly to one side. A beach photo trick: pack a full bathing suit. A tip to add more charm to the photos is to allow the lower edges of the bikini bottom to be slightly raised.

posing for portraits

Relax your face. You can keep your eyes open, but don’t overdo it. Otherwise, you will look sleepy in every photo. Don’t put your lips together in a “duck mouth” style: that looks ridiculous. Leave, at most, for selfies, a situation in which you will be seeing and controlling your own face on your cell phone screen. You can breathe through your mouth, slightly separating your lips. But just a little! If your hands are going to show, relax them. Do not let them face the camera. Keep your head up to avoid the “double chin”. And most importantly: keep a good mood and have fun!

where to put your hands

Try to put your hands to the side for the camera, but not make them tense. When posing, one hand can be on the waist, and the other, just below, in front of the leg. You can cross your arms under your chest. But keep in mind that the hands must remain visible and to the side of the camera. Do not hide your hand under your arm. A good idea is to just put your thumbs in the pockets. The hands, when positioned naturally on the face, give an interesting effect to portraits.

How to position the legs

Stand on tiptoe. This not only elongates the legs but also makes them more elegant. No wonder there are high-heeled shoes. Do not turn your knees towards the camera. This will make your legs “gain” 2 to 3 pounds more. Try to change position when posing. Don’t forget to move around to get more beautiful and elegant images. Pay attention to your feet. Do not flex your fingers too much up or down. Let the curve be straight or shoe-shaped. In one of the photos above, the model correctly positioned her leg and foot, but her big toe stuck out, attracting attention. And what could be a beautiful image will probably go to waste.

Selfie tricks

If you don’t look good in the photo from the front, turn your head about 30 degrees in relation to the cell phone. So your face will look thinner. Do not lift your chin, as this will make your nostrils face directly into the camera. Don’t lower your head too much so you don’t get a double or triple chin. Don’t make your neck tense. Move your shoulders, but don’t lift them too high. Movements need to be smooth and natural. And don’t forget to move. Look for the angles that best suit you.

Candid photos vs. directed photos

Of course, posing is always interesting and makes for good photos. But don’t forget about moving images. Thus, it is easier to obtain a different facial expression, beautiful hair, a more natural and lively posture. But there is one small drawback. To get the image you want, you need to take several pictures. Sometimes even more than a thousand.

And do you have a photo that you like best? Have you ever participated in a session with a professional photographer? What do you think?
