I am not an example of a romantic person. While I want my boyfriend to be, I assume that sometimes my dating is no longer “affectionate” for my lack, but I recognize that dating is wonderful, and also challenging. While we want to have a perfect boyfriend who respects us and is dedicated to the relationship, we also need to strive for the relationship to progress accordingly.

With that in mind, with the help of some friends and acquaintances, we decided to list which qualities make our boyfriends great and excellent companions for life.

1. He communicates with you

This includes knowing how to listen, taking my opinion into account, deciding together, understanding why I often want or don’t want something. He communicates with me about things in life, our family’s needs, and even politics, sports, and daily news.

2. He loves spending time with you

It doesn’t matter what we’re doing together. Maybe nothing, but he still wants to be close. Whether watching a movie at home, or walking in the park. He likes and has learned to like things I like.

3. He makes you laugh

He knows that I, and basically every woman, likes a man in a good mood, who knows how to laugh at himself. And I know that he only finds the joke at the most critical moment precisely because he has the intimacy to do it with me. For a man who loves, the smile of his beloved makes him very happy.

4. He supports you

How many times do I go against something he wants to do thinking about his family or his financial future, for example, but no matter what I want to do, he’s always there supporting me. Even when I make mistakes and doubt myself, he is there encouraging me and by my side.

5. He always teaches you what he knows

I have to admit, I even learned some kitchen tricks because he taught me some things he learned from his mother when he helped her growing up. He knows he doesn’t know everything and he also wants to learn.

6. He is loyal

To this day I haven’t met a man who doesn’t look at the beautiful things that exist, including other women. And I know that we women do too. But regardless, a man who knows there is only one woman he should dedicate himself to and give his heart to is valuable. A man who treats his own wife as the most wonderful person there is, inside and out, needs to be recognized.

7. He recognizes his mistakes

Every man is proud and doesn’t want to do anything that diminishes his masculinity, but a mature enough man who recognizes his mistakes and works to improve them, and especially not repeating them, is rewarding.

8. He protects and takes care of you

He cares about his safety and that of his family. He wants you to call to say you’ve arrived safely in the places you need to go. And make sure you and your family are well taken care of, physically and emotionally.

9. He understands and respects you

He knows what irritates you and what makes you happy, and he understands you like no one else. He pays attention to the little details, which ice cream flavor you like best, which color, and things that really matter in life. He doesn’t provoke you, understands your values and respects your choices, even if his are different.

10. He treats you as an equal

He doesn’t see you as inferior to him, and he doesn’t think he’s better than you. He believes that you have great qualities and unique characteristics and admires you for who you are.

May we be part of a generation of women who recognize the value of men, teaching and being an example to our husbands and children that a balanced marriage is still possible if we work together, progress in marriage exists and love can still win all the evils.
