10 “Round 6” Mistakes and Trivia You May Have Missed

Unless you’ve been living on another planet, you’ve probably heard (if you’re not a big fan) of the Korean drama and dystopia series Round 6. The production became one of Netflix’s biggest hits, quickly reaching the top of the most watched series in 90 countries. But beyond the aspects related to the plot itself, there is a lot of discussion about the errors present in the series, as well as the hidden surprises.

we, from awesome.club, we simply love the much talked about series. That’s why we’ve scoured the web for discoveries made by the most attentive fans of Round 6. And an important warning for those who haven’t seen the production: this article contains spoilers.

1. Player numbers have been mixed

The beginning of the game had 456 participants, and each of them received a number, according to the order in which they started.

The digits of the main characters remain the same throughout the story, but apparently, the producers did not pay the same attention to those of lesser importance to the plot.

For example, originally, player 061 was female, as we can see in this video. However, the elimination photo shows a male participant with the same number. The same error was also recorded with other players, in different episodes.

2. One of the participants would be over 100 years old

Participant 017 had a slight advantage during the fifth game — the one where they have to identify the correct glass plates in order to get to the other side.

He could tell which of the plates were made of tempered glass, and which would break under a person’s weight. Thus, the Leader decides to check the man’s file, seeing that he had worked in a glass factory.

However, a Reddit user found a rather funny error in the player’s birth date: he would have been born in 1897, which would make him 124 years old.

However, it seems that Netflix has fixed the date error, as when checking the episode, we can see that the date shown is correct, showing the year 1987.

3. The umbrella figure on the wall changes from one scene to another

In the second game, players must choose one of four figures — circle, triangle, star and umbrella.

In the challenge, each participant needs to highlight the chosen shape of a sweet known as dalgona, which is a kind of sugar tablet.

The most detailed, however, noticed that the figure of the umbrella present on the wall changes its shape, going from a straight line to pointed curves. And, obviously, this made the game more complicated for the poor participants.

Here’s another fun mistake that most of the audience didn’t notice. In the third episode, Gi-hun appears complaining about the food being cold. Perhaps he was so frustrated with it that he wanted to eat air.

If you have the opportunity to review the scene, you will notice that the character only pretends to eat, putting an empty spoon inside his mouth.

5. Certain translations were not accurate

A Twitter user shared his ideas regarding the true essence of the Korean dialogues, and how they were slightly altered in the English subtitles.

For example, in the scene where Han Mi-nyeo (player 212) tries to convince other participants to include her in their group, the caption reads “I’m not a genius, but I still got it work out” (something like “I’m not a genius, but I still got it work out”). I’m not a genius, but I still manage to solve it”).

The netizen clarified that, in fact, Mi-nyeo said, “I’m very smart, I just never had the chance to study.” She added that this was an important part of the script, as “smart but poor” characters represent a huge cliché in Korean media.

6. There is a continuity error involving Gi-hun’s cell phone

Toward the end of the series, Gi-hun appears at a train station, talking to his daughter through her cell phone, a Samsung S7.

However, when the character is shown at the airport waiting for his flight, a cut-scene shows him with a Samsung S3 in hand. Apparently, the device was lowered at some point during the man’s journey.

7. Miraculously, Hwang Jun-ho’s cell phone never runs out of battery

The policeman’s cell phone became one of the show’s highlights. It also gave rise to several memes and amusing comments, as several users noted the perfect, but unrealistic, performance of the device’s battery.

For about a week, Jun-ho uses the device to take photos and videos, as well as take notes. He is never seen carrying the cell phone, but still, the device works perfectly until the end.

We’re not sure if Jun-ho survived being shot by his brother, but at least his cell phone must have survived.

8. Round 6’s business card shows a real phone number

9. Kang Sae-byeok has a North Korean accent

Non-Korean viewers certainly didn’t notice the impressive detail surrounding the actress’ performance. However, a Reddit user pointed out that Sae-byeok (the defector) gave examples of a North Korean accent in certain scenes.

The netizen also added that, when Sae-byeok appears with other players, he ends up adapting his speech and mannerisms to the South Korean way, as a way of avoiding discrimination. And the northern accent only appears when she talks to her brother and the smuggler.

10. All games appear on the walls of the accommodation

What is perhaps the biggest and most important curiosity of the series involves tips that are in plain sight. Players have great difficulty in guessing what the next game will be, but the truth is that they are all in front of them.

The illustrations on the walls of the barracks show every match from “French Fries 1, 2, 3” to the final match of Round 6.

Everything is hidden behind the beds at the beginning of the competition, being revealed little by little, as the participants are (literally) eliminated.
