It is part of human behavior to act contrary to the recommendations and guidelines given by someone else. And with children this type of behavior tends to be especially common: in many cases, they insist on doing the exact opposite of what their parents told them to do. Still, it is possible to choose the right words and intonations to influence the child to change his own negative behavior.
We, from awesome.club, we decided to go deeper into the tips that can be used in order to deal with unwanted attitudes on the part of the little ones. And we are happy to discover phrases that will help to deal with any problem — in this post, they will be divided by type of situation.
1. Does your child refuse to eat or never finish a meal?
The ideal is to recognize and congratulate the child every time he has a satisfactory eating behavior. Choose words that express how proud you are of your child and avoid calling him “sick”, “laborious to eat” and the like. Terms of this nature do not work as the correct motivation for a child.
2. Does the child never want to tidy up his/her room?
In similar situations, it is normal for parents to get irritated, but phrases like “Clean the room immediately! I’ve told you hundreds of times!” they will hardly be useful to motivate the little one. It’s always better to give him options to choose from without being pushy.
3. You need to go out, but your child is in no hurry to get ready?
There are certain times when the child can act in a very spoiled way. Imagine being too late for an appointment, watching your child refuse to wear clothes or leave his friend’s house. You may tell the child to hurry up countless times, seeing it only serve to increase your own frustration. However, the ideal is to take a deep breath, keep calm and ask kindly.
4. Does your child not want to listen to what you say?
A child’s attitudes can reveal a lot about what he wants and how he feels. Perhaps the little one does not know how to express directly when he is upset or bored, but actions such as crying, refusing to listen to what adults say or throwing toys around the house can give some indications. Make it clear to your child that body language has allowed you to imagine how he is feeling.
5. The child wants a toy, but you’re out of money?
The child you love so much has seen another toy in the store, the one you want with all your might, only you have a limited budget. Do not say no! Enough!” Words like that can make even an adult hurt.
6. Does the child always leave the table without picking up their own dishes?
The kids eat and run off, leaving all that mess for you to clean up. Don’t resort to words like “stop doing that,” “don’t you ever…” or “don’t leave your plate there”. Prefer to give positive tones to your speech.
7. Did the child finally do what you wanted?
Yes, it is common for adults to be nervous when faced with a child who does not want to listen to what they say, but it is essential not to ignore the good behavior shown by the little one. With that, your child will have an extra incentive to listen to you in the future.
8. Do you want the child to stop doing something?
You are trying to finish a report at work, but from where you are sitting you can see your child again playing in that dangerous place, all right before your eyes. Don’t give orders. Instead, redirect the child.
9. Do you want to stimulate self-esteem in your child?
To encourage self-esteem in your young child, value good behavior and independence in him. It is important to react in a positive way so that the child wants to do more and more good things.
10. Express your love even if the child doesn’t seem to be paying attention
Reacting by refusing to give hugs and kisses to inappropriate child behavior will not resolve the situation. The child will not act more appropriately or listen to adults. Sit down to make eye contact on the same level as the child and tell him how much you love him.
And then? How about using some of the phrases suggested in this post when dealing with your children? Do you know other strategies that help to deal with children? Leave a comment with your suggestions!
