9 Habits that prevent us from having an organized home (no matter how hard we try)

Having a tidy home is not just a matter of aesthetics. Household clutter is a source of stress and can even affect our mental state. Therefore, to avoid anxiety, it is important to maintain order in the rooms on a daily basis, avoiding leaving everything for cleaning day.

O awesome.club discovered some bad habits that prevent us from having an organized house and suck our energy.

9. Store small trinkets

To keep things in order, it is important not to accumulate unnecessary objects, which means that it is worth sorting them out even before they enter our homes. Therefore, avoid taking objects that are not useful into your home. For example, souvenirs pointless, useless little gifts, brochures, bank statements that can be consulted on the Internet and old newspapers. Also, keep in mind the rule of “one thing goes in, another comes out”. If you finally decided to buy a kettle or new jeans to replace the torn ones, then do not keep the old ones just in case.

8. Stop using the vacuum cleaner

Many people have a vacuum cleaner but, for some mysterious reason, forget about it. Or, when you use the appliance, you use only the larger nozzle, ignoring the smaller nozzles. These nozzles make cleaning very easy. Dusty shelves, windowsills, sofas and mattresses, hard-to-reach corners… all of these can be cleaned with the smaller nozzle. Of course, the vacuum doesn’t solve everything (in some cases, you’ll need to use water and cleaning products), but it makes a huge difference.

7. Not immediately cleaning soap stains in the bathroom

6. Leave dry clothes hanging on the clothesline for days

Most people know that the ideal is, after a wash, to immediately hang the clothes; otherwise, they will smell unpleasant. The point is that, once they are put on the clothesline and dried, it is important to collect them as soon as possible. Many people keep the pieces hanging even after they are dry, imagining that “nothing will happen”. But this can cause small problems: firstly, the pieces can get dusty or accumulate, for example, your pet’s hair that circulates around the house, carried away by air currents. Secondly, we return to the question at the beginning of this post: permanently hung clothes create an impression of clutter and lack of care in the house.

5. Store stacked clothes

No matter how hard you try, if you keep your clothes in a pile, they will only look neat for a few days. This system, in general, requires a permanent arrangement. So, if you want to keep your closets organized, choose to keep the pieces rolled up, as in the photo above. This way, you will not only save space, but also do yourself a huge favor: it will be much easier to find everything you need.

4. Keep the desk messy

3. Not washing dishes while cooking

You’ve probably been through that situation where you prepare a dinner with family or friends and, in the end, you’re scared by the size of the pile of dishes to wash. In order not to fall into the temptation of leaving everything for later, try to adopt the habit of washing dishes while cooking. To do this, fill the sink with a little water and detergent and start putting the dirty parts and washing when you have a free minute. It is much easier and faster to wash off softened dirt than to get rid of it once it has dried. And so, at the end of the meal, you will have much less to worry about.

2. Not cleaning the house before going out or going to bed

Even if you do everything right when cleaning and tidying up, the habit of leaving a mess before leaving the house can “destroy” any sense of cleanliness and organization. So try to adopt the habit of devoting 10 to 15 minutes to cleaning every night. You can follow a five-step plan: clear the table, wash the dishes, put everything in its place, prepare the laundry for the next morning, and pick up the trash. This will take a little time, but it will make a huge difference.

1. Keep essential objects together with unnecessary ones

Another classic organizational problem: keeping together objects that you constantly use and others that have outlived their usefulness. If you find it difficult to “let go”, do the following: create “themed boxes”, for example, for electronics, clothes, toys, kitchen accessories and so on. Place all objects of questionable utility in them. Wait a month. If during this period you don’t remember them, it’s a sign that, in fact, they no longer make sense in your life. There are even lists on the Internet with tips on objects that we can get rid of without major trauma. Detach!
