10 Movies That, In The Opinion Of Keanu Reeves, Everyone Should Watch

Keanu Reeves is considered the kindest and most touching man in Hollywood. However, we cannot forget that his achievements do not end there. At the end of the article, a bonus: the only film on the actor’s list in which he acts himself.

It is said that this list came about thanks to Carrie-Anne Moss, the actor’s colleague on the set of The Matrix. Once, she asked him for just a few tips for enjoying a movie night, however, he didn’t restrict himself to just two or three films, but approached the request with the utmost responsibility and ended up passing on a list of 18 films.

For our part, we’ve selected the top 10 most recent movies from the list, filtered them by rating — in ascending order — and supplemented them with descriptions for your convenience. Enjoy watching them!

10. Arizona Never Again

This brilliant comedy, starring Nicolas Cage, is the second film in the Coen brothers’ career. The plot tells the story of a young man named HI McDonnough who, due to his perpetual attempts to carry out shady deals, frequently encounters Edwina at the police station. Then he falls in love with her and promises to change her behavior. They get married, but their happiness is overshadowed by the news that Edwina is infertile. So, HI ends up embarking on yet another adventure, even more absurd than the previous ones.

9. Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead

This film is a fun addition to William Shakespeare’s iconic play Hamlet, but unlike the original text, the plot is presented from the point of view of secondary characters: the prince’s inseparable friends. His version of events turns the story into a tragicomic farce. Importantly, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are magnificently portrayed on screen by the very famous Gary Oldman and Tim Roth, so audiences can enjoy powerful performances from the masters.

8. Mad Max 2: The Hunt Continues

Starring a young Mel Gibson, this action film continues to reveal the adventures of a lone driver named Max as he makes his way through the post-apocalyptic Australian desert.

During his journey, the protagonist meets a scientist who accompanies him to a certain community, protector of useful resources. At first, Max was only concerned with his own benefit. However, when the community becomes the target of a bandit, he decides to help its residents and joins them in an uphill battle against their adversaries.

7. Scamp in the West

The railroad company, in order to avoid the quicksands, decides to build a new railroad through a small town in the American West, Rock Ridge. Seeking to achieve its objective, the company bribes the governor to hire a new sheriff who, subjected to pressure from the population and a band of men deliberately sent to the territory to terrorize the residents, should not have lasted more than a day. However, nothing goes according to plan: the sheriff, seemingly silly, decides to fight.

6. Josey Wales, the Outlaw

Josey Wales, the protagonist of the film, played by the magnificent Clint Eastwood, is just a peaceful farmer who has always dreamed of a quiet and simple life. However, fate decided otherwise, and now he pursues the sole aim of restoring justice. Josey is outlawed and has to hide from persecution. Fortunately, along the way, the hero meets a group of outcasts who keep him company on his dangerous journey, in exchange for the protection that Josey can offer them.

5. The Big Lebowski

The Big Lebowski is yet another iconic film by the Coen brothers and tells the story of Jeffrey Lebowski, nicknamed the Dude. Despite being unemployed and penniless, he considers himself an absolutely happy man.

However, his apartment is invaded by some strangers who collect the money owed by his supposed wife. He manages to explain that he was never married, and the misunderstanding is pretty much over. However, before they leave, these men ruin Jeffrey’s favorite rug. So, Dude decides to go in search of that Lebowski, whom the bandits came after, to demand compensation.

4. Monty Python’s Quest for the Holy Grail

This fantasy comedy is widely known for its acidic humor and is definitely worth seeing for anyone looking for a good laugh.

The plot of the feature playfully interprets the legend of King Arthur. One day, in the company of the Knights of the Round Table, he decides to embark on an important journey in search of the Holy Grail. Along the way, they encounter the most ridiculous characters and the most absurd situations, plunging the viewer deeper and deeper into the abyss of comic madness.

3. Clockwork Orange

This iconic film, directed by Stanley Kubrick and adapted from the dystopian novel of the same name, by Anthony Burgess.

The film tells the story of Alex DeLarge, a very antisocial person and the ruthless leader of a gang of teenagers with no sense of moral principles. Upon being arrested, hoping to reduce his time in jail, the young man agrees to participate in an experimental therapy, aimed at correcting his behavior.

2. Amadeus

This cinematographic work, based on the homonymous play, is a free interpretation of the biographies of Wolfgang Mozart and Antonio Salieri. The production won eight Oscars.

As a child, Salieri dreamed of becoming a great composer and devoted himself completely to music, seeking to fulfill his dream. Seven years later, at a social event, Salieri meets Mozart and is deeply shaken: the musical talent, which he could only dream of, went to a reckless, ill-mannered and mischievous boy. Outraged by this injustice, Salieri decides to destroy Mozart, first by pretending to be his ally.

1. The Professional

This is a cult film directed by Luc Besson. The main roles were played by Jean Reno, Gary Oldman and Natalie Portman, who, by the way, made her film debut with this work.

The protagonist, Leon, has adopted an isolated life and in his free time from his rather peculiar job he does nothing but peaceful activities: he exercises, takes care of his favorite plant and goes to the movies. One day, he meets Mathilda, a teenager who grows up in a troubled family. When her father gets involved in another dangerous situation, the girl asks him for refuge. Unexpectedly, for himself, he ends up taking on the role of the girl’s father and friend.

Bonus: Neon Demon

Neon Fiend is a psychological thriller starring Elle Fanning. The film tells the story of 16-year-old Jesse, who, shortly after finishing high school, moves from an inner city to Los Angeles, seeking to become a professional model. By making useful contacts, as well as attending countless photo shoots and parties, she quickly climbs the career ladder and gets closer to her dreams. However, there is a price to pay for its breakneck success, and competitors are always on the lookout.

The curious thing is that this film is the only one on Keanu’s list in which he himself acted. In addition, the film’s rating, critics’ reaction and grossing are lower than the others. In the actor’s filmography, there are undoubtedly many more popular and successful roles, but it seems that in this production he saw something special.
