10 Magic Tricks Used For Centuries And Finally Revealed

One of the world’s most famous magicians, David Copperfield, once said, “The real secret of magic lies in the way it is performed.” In one of his tricks, he causes a train car to rise above the ground, levitate and disappear. How does he do it? It turns out that most magic acts consist of meticulous preparation, practice, and the art of getting the audience to see what they want.

Magic seduces us, regardless of age. Good tricks fascinate us, and no matter how many times we watch them, they keep us curious and eager on the edge of our seats until the very end. The more professional and impressive the number, the more intense is our desire to know what’s behind it.

At the awesome.club we’ve created a list of the secrets of some of the most well-known magic tricks in history. With our rather simple explanations, you will discover how these numbers are performed and you can even try to run some of them on your own.

10. A moving piece of fabric

This cantrip includes a piece of colored fabric that moves as if there is a creature hiding under it. People in the audience must believe that it is a ghost summoned by the magician as he moves his hands across the fabric.

How this is done: the illusionist wears a colored scarf that hides a piece of thin wire at one of its edges. One end of the cable is slightly bent, and when pressed, the magician makes the cable rise. This is how the optical illusion is created that the fabric is in motion, and the colorful pattern of the scarf helps to distract the audience’s attention from the small details.

9. Crossing a balloon with a needle

A knitting needle goes through a balloon without it exploding. In fact, this trick is very easy to do and you can try it at home.

How is done: you must completely cover the needle with oil. The places where the bladder is punctured are crucial. Push the needle through the “strong” points of the balloon, where the latex layer is thickest. These areas are on the top and on the beak.

You must make sure to pass the needle through these 2 stitches so that the bladder will not burst. To perform this trick you can use a knitting needle, a long needle with a thread or even a pencil.

8. Cut and Restore

The illusionist cuts the rope into 2 parts, then folds the halves in one hand, makes some mysterious movements with the other hand, and then shows us an intact, uncut rope.

How is done: here’s one more trick you can try at home. The point is that what the magician cuts is not really the original rope, but a small identical rope that extends in the same hand that holds the other rope. It hides the cut piece and shows the original cord intact.

7. Solve a math problem with a magic chalk

At the beginning of this trick, viewers see two small slates. The magician writes a math problem on one of them. The solution space is left blank. Then, the two slates are joined face-to-face with a piece of chalk between them.

The magician shakes the slates, then separates them, and the spectators see the solution to the problem written exactly where it should be.

How to make: one of the slates contains another, secret one, which fits into your frame. In it the mathematical problem and its solution are already written. It is placed face down on the original blackboard so the numbers are not seen. When the magician shakes them together and then separates them, what viewers see is this secret slate that falls down and fits into the original.

6. Pass a coin through the glass

The magician passes a coin across a glass table.

How to do it: the magician uses 2 identical steel coins in that number. One of them is placed on the glass, while the other remains hidden in the palm of the hand. An essential accessory for this trick is a ring with a magnet attached to it, hidden under the illusionist’s fingers.

He hides a coin in his palm without the ring, which hand will go under the glass, so that the magnet in the ring of the other hand attracts the coin through the glass of the table. The magician guides the attracted coin to the place where the other one on the table is. When the upper hand is raised, the coin that was under the glass falls into the palm of the other hand; at the same time, the coin that was originally placed on the table is pulled towards the magnet attached to the ring. This is how the effect of going through the glass is created.

5. The scarf that crosses the neck

The scarf is tied around the magician’s neck, who pulls it tight and the scarf ends up in his hands, creating the effect of crossing the neck.

How is done: Here’s another trick that’s pretty easy to do at home. All you need is a long scarf or a rope. You must tie the scarf following the instructions that appear in the image above. You need to create two loose circles and pass one in the middle of the other.

This knot tricks the viewer into creating the illusion of a tight scarf around the neck. Quickly, you must remove the scarf and the loops will be released to create the effect that it crosses the neck.

4. How to survive a lethal cut

The magician cuts the arm with a knife, running it through the skin and muscles. The trick looks really scary and dangerous. However, at the end of the number, the mage’s arm is safe and sound and has no cuts of any kind.

How to do it: the secret of the trick is the knife. It has a blunt blade with a semicircular space. When this space surrounds the arm, it creates the effect of pushing the blade through the muscles.

3. Throwing knives

This is one of the most terrifying numbers in magic acts: the magician throws knives at an assistant who is tied to the center of a giant target. Fortunately, she will be safe in the end!

How to make: the illusionist never throws the knives, but only points them at a target and then hides them in a secret pocket. Another assistant hides behind the gigantic target and holds a special device that shoots the knives backwards. The assistant activates the devices exactly at the moment when the magician “throws” each knife and creates the illusion that it is stuck on the target next to the tied person.

2. Catch the bullet with your teeth

The magician carries a rifle with gunpowder and a bullet. Then, the rifle is given to the assistant, who shoots the illusionist who is at a considerable distance. After the shot, the surprised audience can see him holding the bullet between his teeth.

How to do it: the rifle used in this trick is not real. The shooting effect is simply recreated with the help of a special mechanism hidden inside the rifle. When loading the bullet into the barrel, the magician uses a special funnel with a small magnet at the end. This magnet attracts the bullet and the illusionist hides it until the end, when it appears right between his teeth.

To create a more impressive effect, there is sometimes a glass frame placed between the wizard and the magician. At the moment of shooting, the glass is broken with the help of a special mechanism and creates the illusion of a real shot. Marking the bullet with a special sign before loading the rifle and showing the audience that it is the same at the end of the trick impresses people much more.

1. The disappearance of the enigmatic train Orient Express

This is one of the most fascinating and impressive tricks in the history of magic and illusion: David Copperfield makes an Orient Express train car disappear in front of a crowd of spectators. The car is covered with fabric and raised above the floor. When Copperfield removes the cloth, there is nothing underneath.

How this is done: one of the theories says that there is a special rigid construction in the form of a frame built around the wagon with a copy of its outline. Once the car is covered with the fabric, the frame is removed with the fabric around the edges. When spectators see how the car lifts up, what they really see is the fabric-covered structure.

The illusionists’ goal is not just to create an atmosphere of magic: their main intention is to distract the spectators’ attention and keep them focused on the fabric structure while the car is removed from the train.

As you can see, many tricks that are quite familiar can be explained easily: fast hands, artistic illusions, visual effects and the magician’s personal touch are things that really boggle our minds.
