10 home care mistakes that can make your home a lot less cozy

According to a study, the dirtiest place in our homes is the kitchen, and the worst part of it is the “harmless” dish sponge. If, on the one hand, we want to take care of our homes and make them cozier, we often do household chores without thinking, for example cleaning the windows on a sunny day or putting the toilet paper roll with the tip facing backwards. . And some of the decisions we make in this regard end up compromising the entire result or even worse: generating serious hygiene errors.

We, from incredible.club, we were surprised to find that we had been doing a lot of things wrong. However, it is clear that we could not continue making the same mistakes. So we set out to find useful techniques for better home care, and of course we’ll tell you all about it.

1. Use plastic handles and handles

Today, the variety of door handles available is so impressive that everyone is able to choose a model that fits their style. However, when it comes to the material that door handles are made of, it is essential to invest in the most hygienic option. Brass parts are considered the safest, as the material is known for its ability to self-disinfect. In other words, it literally kills bacteria and viruses. Stainless steel and plastic door handles are considered ideal environments for the proliferation of microorganisms.

2. Wash windows on sunny days

Washing the windows on sunny days might not be such a good idea. It is better to postpone this task to a cloudy day without direct sunlight.

As with washing a car, window cleaning becomes a mess because the sun’s heat causes the windows to dry quickly and eventually stain. And you don’t want to see all your dedication going down the drain, do you?

3. Leave the toilet paper roll with the end facing backwards

People have already argued so much about the correct way to put the toilet paper roll that the discussion about “backwards or forwards” has taken on the contours of an urban legend. However, surveys indicate that the number of fans of the “forward” option is much higher than those who prefer “backwards”. And even the inventor of the toilet paper roll always suggested that it should be positioned to allow the paper to pass over the top of the roll, not under it.
The reasoning behind this is that when the individual is in the bathroom and realizes that they have run out of toilet paper, they touch the surrounding area less often using the same hand used to clean their private parts. In addition, the paper itself does not come into contact with the bathroom wall, a breeding ground for bacteria to accumulate.

4. Take off your shoes indoors

In many cultures, it is common for people to remove their shoes before entering a home. In Japan, for example, inhabitants usually even have specific slippers for use in the bathroom, which are removed from the foot as soon as the resident leaves the room. The reason for the emergence of the hygienic tradition of taking off your shoes even outside, before entering the house, is simple: through it, you avoid leaving dirt and residue on the floor and carpets inside the house. Furthermore, the soles of shoes are believed to be the perfect home for bacteria capable of causing infections. Therefore, by taking off your shoes before entering the house, you avoid the risk of contracting diseases.

5. Dust off furniture after vacuuming

For some of us, dusting furniture and objects after vacuuming seems like the logical end to a sparkling clean home. However, it is always better to remove all dust from the environment before vacuuming, as this way, you will be able to get rid of the particles that are suspended in the air for some time, falling to the floor afterwards. Furthermore, dust removal also needs to be done properly: starting from the upper surfaces and working down towards the bottom. The technique allows you to previously remove most of the dust and then use the vacuum cleaner to remove everything that is left.

6. Move the vacuum brush in one direction

Among the main mistakes we usually make when using the vacuum cleaner is moving the device in one direction or doing it extremely quickly, back and forth. None of these movements is useful for those who want to achieve the best results in cleaning.

Cleaning professionals recommend vacuuming in both directions, but in rows: first, we must take the vacuum cleaner brush forward, reaching the end of the row with it. Then, go back along the same row, collecting the remaining dust and taking the opportunity to make the rug fluffier. Using such a technique, in fact, it is possible to vacuum the entire environment easily and effectively.

7. Leave the curtains open on sunny days

Of course, letting a little sunlight into your home is a nice thing, capable of making any home cozier. However, the habit brings a major disadvantage: ultraviolet rays and direct light cause carpets, furniture and decorative items to lose color, getting that faded look. The most practical way to protect pieces such as sofas and armchairs, which as we well know are not cheap things, is to position them in areas of the house where there is shade.

If you don’t want to move the furniture, you can still keep it safe by using blinds or curtains installed on the windows. Only they need to stay closed when it’s sunny. In this way, under artificial shade, your furniture will retain its beauty for much longer. Window films also serve the same purpose, as the highest quality options available on the market reflect up to 99.9% of ultraviolet light.

8. Leaving the doormat in the wrong position

9. Clean under artificial light

Dust particles are more easily seen under natural light, and you may have already noticed this when looking at a beam of light in which dirt appears to be “dancing”, suspended in the air. For this reason, it is always better to dust the house when the sun is shining outside. This way, you will be able to see the dirty areas clearly and do a precise cleaning. Artificial light does not give a very clear image of dusty surfaces, and it is very likely that the next day you will have to repeat the task.

10. Clean window panes after framing

When cleaning windows, it is good to remember that the panes, as well as the windowsills, are generally the parts with the greatest accumulation of dirt. The first step should not be to clean the windows, but to remove all dust and dirt from window frames and windowsills with the help of a vacuum cleaner. Only then should the glass be washed using an appropriate cleaning solution.

Reinforcing: only after cleaning the frames should the glasses be washed. If you reverse the order, all the dirt present on the frame will go to the window that was just cleaned. The result will certainly be the need and redo all the work.
