10+ Famous movies that have more than one remake and maybe you didn’t even imagine

Reshoots have become increasingly common in the film industry. Offering new approaches to old stories, the producers use up-to-date language and modern technology to ensure the success of their readaptations. Certain stories are so beloved that they cross generations and end up being remade on more than one occasion.

One of Stephen King’s most famous books, Carrie gained notoriety after winning an adaptation for theaters in 1976. Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Brian De Palma, the feature had in its cast names like Sissy Spacek, in the lead role, and John Travolta. The work became a horror classic and, to this day, is worshiped by fans of the genre.

But that wasn’t the only time the horror master’s haunting story was told in cinematic format. In 2002, a new version was released as a telefilm, putting Angela Bettis in the skin of the title character. Years later, in 2013, it was Chloë Grace Moretz’s turn to bring the lonely Carrie to life. In this most recent edition, award-winning actress Julianne Moore lent her talent as an interpreter of the protagonist’s mother.

the comedy Very Crazy Friday, released in 2003, was a box office success. Bringing in veteran Jamie Lee Curtis and sweetheart teen from the Lindsay Lohan era in the lead roles, the production is inspired by the book What a Freaky Friday!, by author Mary Rodgers. But the amusing story of the mother and daughter who switch bodies with each other has already been told in feature film form other times, all under the signature of Disney Studios.

The first version, which in Brazil received the title If I Were My Mother, premiered in 1976, featuring Barbara Harris and Jodie Foster as the protagonists. Later, in 1995, American TV produced the telefilm Like Mother, Like Daughter, bringing together actresses Shelley Long and Gaby Hoffmann as the pair of young ladies. More recently, the plot has been sung and turned into a musical. Promoted by Disney Channel, the 2018 adaptation took the same name as the 2003 version and starred Heidi Blickenstaff and Cozi Zuehlsdorff.

Based on the book of the same name by Paul Gallico, the feature Poseidon’s Destiny, from 1972, was one of the most popular disaster films of its time. Narrating the tragic story of the transatlantic ship that is hit by a huge wave and is upside down in the sea, the version, starring the famous Gene Hackman, competed in nine Oscar categories, winning two statuettes on the occasion.

The first remake, The Adventure of Poseidon, was produced in 2005 and released directly on American TV, without much repercussion. In the following year, the blockbuster Poseidon, with Josh Lucas and Kurt Russell in the lead roles, managed to gain some popularity. The work, whose scenes of the accident impressed, won an Academy Award nomination in the category of Best Visual Effects.

The classic tale of the “man cub” created by wild animals in the forest, originated in the book by Rudyard Kipling, has already won many adaptations on TV and cinema. Still in 1942, long before the famous animation was produced, the first film costume of Mowgli the Wolf Boy earned four Oscar nominations. Only in 1967 did Disney release its cartoon edition of the boy from the woods.

But anyone who thinks that that movie from a few years ago, with impressive images of animals, was the only time that Mickey’s studio developed a live action of that story. In 1994, the long The Jungle Book narrated the adventures of an adult Mowgli. However, it was the remake 2016 that really attracted public attention. Bringing an eye-popping aesthetic, the work was critically acclaimed and secured the Oscar for Best Visual Effects. Shortly afterwards, in 2018, Netflix bet on Mowgli: Between Two Worlds🇧🇷 The launch of the giant streamingwhich couldn’t escape comparisons to Disney’s recent version, didn’t achieve the same success.

First published in 1862, The miserable, the work of writer Victor Hugo, is yet another champion of adaptations around the world. In recent times, history has returned to the subject after the release of the prestigious musical in 2012. Starring big names in Hollywood, such as Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe and Anne Hathaway, the production became one of the biggest hits of that year, winning eight Oscar nominations and winning three of them.

Among the other notable film editions of Jean Valjean’s journey are the 1935 feature, which competed in four Oscar categories, and the 1998, which featured stars such as Liam Neeson, Geoffrey Rush and Uma Thurman in its main cast. These versions, however, do not have songs performed by the actors on stage.

Success in 2007, the film I’m the Legend narrates the adventures of a man who believes he is the last survivor of an epidemic that turned humans into bloodthirsty creatures. With star Will Smith and Brazilian Alice Braga in the cast, the film is an adaptation of the book The Last Hope on Earthby Richard Matheson, besides being like a remake of two other American productions.

The first film version of this story was released in 1964. Entitled dead that kill, the work featured the legendary actor Vincent Price in the lead role and featured a style more focused on the horror genre. Years later, in 1971, the unforgettable Charlton Heston starred in Earth’s Last Hopea second outfit, bringing the fearless protagonist to life in action-packed scenes.

With a cast headlined by Naomi Watts, Jack Black and Adrien Brody, the King Kong by director Peter Jackson became the fifth highest-grossing film of that year. The most recent version, Kong: Skull Islandfrom 2017, was promoted as part of the MonsterVerse franchise, which began in 2014 with Godzilla🇧🇷

Partner of King Kong, Godzilla it was the giant Japanese monster that destroyed the city in the 1954 film. The work spawned many sequels and adaptations over time, earning the Guinness record for the longest-lasting film franchise in history. The first all-American version of the film opened in 1998.

Actor Matthew Broderick played the main character of the production, which did not please the experts and received five nominations for the Golden Raspberry, an award that “consecrates” the worst releases of the year. More recently, in 2014, a new remake hollywoodian hit the movie theaters. This time, the response from critics and the public was positive and the title inaugurated the MonsterVerse, a saga that still has Kong: Skull Island (2017) and Godzilla II: King of the Monsters (2019). The clash between the two creatures, Godzilla vs. Kongis expected to debut in 2021.

Recurrent presence in the heyday of Afternoon sessionfrom TV Globo, the 1980 version of The blue Lake is certainly the most remembered by the Brazilian public. Despite actress Brooke Shields being heavily criticized for her performance in the scenes, the title was a commercial success and yielded a sequel released years later.

The plot, based on the novel by author Henry De Vere Stacpoole, had already been adapted for theaters on other occasions. One of them was in 1949, when the British film industry decided to bet on history. More recently, the tale of the children who are shipwrecked on a desert island has been retold in language adapted to the present day. Entitled Blue Lagoon: The Awakeningthe 2012 feature debuted directly on American TV and featured Christopher Atkins, the main actor of the classic from the eighties.

The Evil Queen did not accept being the second most beautiful girl in the kingdom. And that was reason enough for her to chase after her poor stepdaughter and make her fall asleep after biting into a poisoned apple. This classic fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm has crossed generations and has accumulated several adaptations on the big screen over time. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfsfrom 1937, was Walt Disney’s first full-length animation and became one of the studio’s most beloved titles.

Thanks to its impact on popular culture, the American Film Institute chose the work as one of the 100 best American films in history. In 2012, the fable won two versions with real actors. In Mirror, Mirror of mine, Lily Collins plays the fairest princess of all, while Julia Roberts plays her evil stepmother. Already in Snow White and the hunter, an obscure retelling of the narrative, Kristen Stewart brings the girl to life, tormented by Charlize Theron’s villain. The production received two Oscar nominations and yielded a sequel released in 2016.

Another favorite fable of many people, Beauty and the Beast was immortalized by Disney thanks to the acclaimed classic from 1991. The first animation to be nominated for the main Oscar award, for Best Film, the feature secured the statuettes for Best Soundtrack and Best Original Song on the occasion. There are two cinematographic versions with real actors popular in Brazil.

One of them, released in 2014, is a French-German work starring Léa Seydoux and Vincent Cassel. but it was the live action from Walt Disney Studios, 2017, which won the hearts of the public. With Emma Watson and Dan Steves in the lead roles, the adaptation of the animated musical became the second highest grossing that year and competed in two categories at the Academy Awards.
