10 apps for autistic children that help with interaction and communication

Those who are “old” will remember well their times of street games. Nowadays, many children have different habits and games are becoming more and more technological. But even so, they can still be responsible for providing ways to expose and express emotions, in addition to strengthening affective bonds.

O awesome.club sought a way to unite two things that are very present in the lives of modern children: technology and games. These two things can also be found together in educational games. Check it out!

1. My Special Routine

This is an application in a schedule format that, through simple reasoning, presents stages for each activity. The person responsible for the child inserts real photos, in addition to being able to record audios, to create a more organized and clear routine.

Due to the bond that the application creates with the child, she is more comfortable and will be ready for any task of the day. So, for example, when a different activity comes up, the child’s anxiety will be less.

2. Livox

The Livox, which means Freedom aloud, is a project created by Carlos Pereira from Pernambuco. The project has already won a UN award as the best inclusion application and has been translated into several languages.

Carlos, who is the father of a child with cerebral palsy, created the program so that he could translate what the user wanted to communicate. The app literally speaks.

4. Chatterbox

Matraquinha is an application in which the child or teenager can transmit their feelings and desires through cards. It is simple to use and understand: the user just clicks on the card, and the application, through voice messages, says what the user wants to communicate.

It is normal that, at the beginning, the child presses all the buttons, but this is good so that he can understand the meaning of each one. Also, the app doesn’t need to be connected to Wi-Fi, it works in airplane mode.

5. PictoTEA

PictoTEA is a completely free application, created to help people with Autism Spectrum Disorder. The program allows children to communicate through images. With a very simple and friendly interface, it also allows you to customize the different stages according to the degree of difficulty of each one.

6. Brainy Mouse

Also created by a Brazilian woman, the game is made up of tools that can be adapted according to your objective. Ana Paula Sarrizo developed a mechanism to encourage children’s socialization, called Rato Amigo.

9. Autos

The game consists of an animated series of 26 episodes and options for drawing geometric figures and associating them with everyday objects. The game has an area for free drawings, because the developers believe that with freedom, stimulation and observation, it is possible to get to know children better.

10. Jade Autism

Jade was the winner in the Facilities category of the Campus Mobile Award 2018, held at USP, in São Paulo. The app was designed by Ronaldo Cohin, a Computer Science student and father of an autistic child.

In it you will find association games, in which the child must find the answers among some categories such as animals, food, colors, numbers and shapes, thus stimulating reasoning and development.
