With all that she has achieved, actress Betty White can be considered a national treasure. She managed to thrive in the entertainment industry for eight decades, is universally loved by all and still call “America’s Sweetheart”. Betty White was a legend
Betty White was born in 1922, which means she lived through major historical events, including World War II. A curiosity: it was born before the “sliced bread”, which appeared only in 1928.
She made a career leap in 1939 when she danced on an experimental TV show wearing her high school graduation dress.
From there, Betty White conquered American television and became a Hollywood favorite. She sang, acted and also had a keen sense of humor, which made her a coveted guest on comedy shows and game shows.
She was one of the first TV series stars and the first woman to produce a national show.
Betty White was the lead actress in the TV series A Vida com Elizabeth, also produced by her.
And that sparkling star continued to shine on our screens for decades to come, in productions such as Mary Tyler Moore, The Betty White Show, Super Hot and In The Heat of Cleveland, among others.
Betty White’s charisma spanned generations
Many Hollywood stars fade over time, but Betty White was an exception to the rule. Over the past 80 years, she has constantly appeared in different movies and TV projects.
The actress became a public favorite after appearing in a chocolate ad in the 2010 Super Bowl campaign. A Facebook campaign was also launched to appear on Saturday Night Live, becoming the oldest person to host the program.
She remained active in the profession, recorded a cameo in a music video and lent her voice to animated characters in SpongeBob SquarePants and Toy Story 4, in which her character was adoringly named Bitey White.
This golden girl has amassed several awards under her belt.
Betty White was an extremely talented actress and her many awards prove it. She has won an Emmy eight times and was also the first woman to win an Emmy as a game show host.
He has also won three American Comedy Awards, three Screen Actors Guild Awards, and a Grammy, all of which are collected in his trophy collection.
It’s no surprise that she’s on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and was inducted into the Television Hall of Fame in 1995.
Because she was so wonderful, she received other honorary titles
She was hailed as the “Mayor of Hollywood” for being the first female producer of a TV series. She has also been dubbed “The First Lady of Television” in a documentary and “The First Lady of Game Shows” as well.
Betty White was also recognized as a “Colonel of Kentucky”, the highest title of honor bestowed by that state’s governor.
Betty White holds the Guinness World Record as the female entertainer with the longest TV career
She received the title in 2014, for her 74-year career at the time. Nearly a decade later, her hold on the record remains strong. And it looks like no one will rob him of that honor anytime soon (or ever).
In an interview with Guinness World Records, she admitted to being a fan of the organization.
“I have always found the book fascinating. I can’t believe I’m part of it today. I’m surprised at some of the records they keep. The longest fingernails?!?” — even their reactions are adorable!
She was more than an actress — she was also a published author and animal rights activist.
Betty White published several books in the 1980s and 1990s, including Betty White In Person and Here We Go Again: My Life in Television.
In 2011, he released two more — If You Ask Me (And of Course You Won’t) — and Betty & Friends: My Life at the Zoo (Betty & Amigo: Minha Life at the Zoo).
Speaking of animals, Betty White was a pet lover and worked with several organizations to advocate for the health of our furry friends.
Betty White’s true love passed away four decades ago, and she has not remarried.
Before meeting her soul mate, Betty White was married twice. Her first husband was US Air Force pilot Dick Barker and her second was Hollywood talent agent Lane Allen. Sadly, both marriages ended.
But, in 1961, our girl finally met her match when she was a guest on the game show Password, hosted by Allen Ludden. After a period of courtship, the two were married in 1963.
In an interview with host Oprah Winfrey, Betty White admitted that her biggest regret was wasting an entire year saying “no” to Ludden’s requests because they could have spent more time together.
Sadly, Ludden passed away in 1981 from cancer and Betty White never remarried. When asked why, she simply replied, “When you’ve had the best, who needs the rest?”
She also chose not to have children because she wanted to focus on her career.
Betty White became stepmother to Ludden’s three children from his previous marriage. But in their 18 years together, the couple never had children.
The artist shared that she consciously chose this option, as her career was her priority. And, knowing what a compulsive person she was, she felt she couldn’t be an actress and mother.
She was a much-loved icon and role model for the actors she works with.
When she celebrated her ninetieth birthday in 2012, some of Hollywood’s brightest personalities honored her, including Mary Tyler Moore, Amy Poehler, Tina Fey, Carol Burnett, Ellen DeGeneres, Joel McHale, Hugh Jackman and Ray Romano.
When asked what advice she would give to actors starting out in their careers, White said they should do their homework and learn to value their profession, as she considers it a privilege to be in the entertainment industry.
