When leaving a hotel room, everyone should follow 7 rules of etiquette

The most enthusiastic travelers spend an average of 88 nights in hotels per year, according to statistics. And properties around the world do their best to make their rooms a home for their guests. However, many people do not realize that paying for hosting does not mean using the premises without taking any care.

We, from awesome.clubwe have prepared a list of certain rules that everyone should follow, before doing the Check-out in a hotel.

1. Don’t fold dirty towels

Hotel workers say the right way to handle used towels is to gather them in a very specific place, like in a bathtub or on the bathroom floor, making it easy to collect them for cleaning. Do not fold them and leave them on a shelf, as it will be difficult for housekeepers to know whether they were actually used or not.

2. Don’t make the bed

It would be polite to do some basic cleaning before leaving your hotel room. For example, you can pull hair out of the drain and clean any bodily fluids from different surfaces. It may sound surprising, but some people don’t even flush the toilet after using it! But there is absolutely no need to make the bed, because the maids will have to change the sheets anyway.

3. Leave a tip

Tipping is held in high regard in the service sector, as employees’ salaries are generally low, and the work done by them is also quite difficult. Therefore, it is important not to forget to thank the people who provided you with a comfortable stay by leaving them a tip. Remember: different staff may clean your room each day, so you might consider leaving tips not just at the end of your stay. Experienced travelers advise that if it is not the last day of your stay, you should leave a note with the tip, so that the housekeepers can be sure that their co-workers will also receive the money.

4. Collect your trash

Don’t leave your rubbish anywhere but in a dumpster. It will take a long time for the housekeepers to collect all the used bottles and boxes from the room. If you have a lot of garbage, you can ask for a plastic bag to put everything in there, something many travelers do.

5. Open windows to let in fresh air

Housekeeping needs to clean the rooms very quickly so other guests can check in, so it’s not always easy to let in fresh air. You’ll be doing them a real favor if you leave the windows open to freshen the air in the room, hotel managers say. In the warm months of the year, you can even turn on the air conditioning.

6. Arrange all furniture and accessories as they were upon arrival

You need to put the TV remote on the TV stand, the cutlery on the table, and the chairs in their proper place, travelers suggest. A chambermaid has about 20-30 minutes to get the room perfect, so by organizing these things, you’ll make her job easier.

7. Don’t use anything you don’t really need

If traveling alone and staying in a room with two beds, don’t use both. You can get away with just one, not creating more work for the maids. This also refers to everything else that can remain untouched.
