What is the “clean face” movement and why it might be good to join it

Alicia Keys, Gal Galdot, Mila Kunis. For some time now, all these important women in the entertainment world have been challenging stereotypes attributed to being feminine. They decided to take a break from makeup and question the direct association made by the media and replicated among some influencers and in society as a whole: a beautiful and attractive woman needs to be made up, with painted lips, well highlighted eyes and marked cheekbones . To interrupt this cycle of mistaken beliefs, a new wave of behavior has been gaining ground, in the form of a movement called #NoMakeup (“Without makeup”), commanded by some of the celebrities we mentioned above.

O awesome.club below tells what the movement is about and reveals the reasons why you might try it.

The “washed face” movement

The objective is to establish a posture in which the woman can display her own face the way it is, without the obligation to use makeup as if it were necessary for a more “feminine” look. Since the emergence of the first cosmetic products, such as eyelash mascara and compact powder, beauty has ended up being associated with their full faces. For example, Marilyn Monroe’s red lips in the 50’s, and, 70 years later, Kylie Jenner’s mouth.

O #NoMakeup aims to show many women, especially girls and teenagers, that they are beautiful regardless of makeup. For the fans, it is necessary to break patterns to make room for a simpler and more natural beauty.

Alicia Keys, the most dedicated to valuing another beauty standard

What about high school? When all the “pretty” girls wear lipstick, eyeliner and mascara? Some of them are so skilled that they look like models from magazines, making you feel a little uncomfortable with yourself, awkward or just plain invisible. It’s the moment when some of you realize that, in order to fit in or be considered beautiful, you need to cover up, because that way you will feel close to perfection.

Mila Kunis just doesn’t want to wear makeup

I don’t wear makeup. I don’t wash my hair every day. It’s not something that has anything to do with me. I praise women who wake up 30, 40 minutes earlier to apply eyeliner. Of course it’s beautiful, but I’m just not that person. So, going to a photo shoot where the makeup artist just slathers me with face cream and sends me in front of the camera makes me think, “Well, that makes life easier.”

Why would it be good to try the #NoMakeup

1. Your skin will have less impurities

Makeup brings with it unnatural bacteria, not to mention the dirt that builds up on brushes when they aren’t properly washed. The more germs that clog pores to breathe, the more possibilities are open for the accumulation of fat, which is the most common cause for the development of acne. If you stop using makeup, chances are your skin will suffer less from breakouts.

2. The skin ages better

3. You save time and money

A study carried out in the United Kingdom showed that women spend 474 days of their lives putting on makeup and more than three hours a week dedicating themselves to this habit alone. Stopping wearing makeup therefore involves saving a lot of time in the morning. We are talking about precious minutes that the person can use to sleep, prepare a good breakfast or change clothes without rushing. Not to mention that not using makeup is a good money saver, as products of this type tend not to be exactly cheap.

4. Greater hydration

While we sleep, the skin on our face renews itself, shedding dead cells and creating new ones. A good part of us, when arriving home late, tend to feel lazy to take off our makeup, going to bed without removing the products. But this custom, unfortunately, prevents the night cycle from being carried out correctly. As a result, the skin dries out, becomes dull and dehydrated. Swapping makeup for moisturizing creams is something that many celebrities recommend.

5. You learn to accept your body the way it is

In the end, the main purpose of the movement is to make every woman recover what makes her feel feminine. Each of us knows what is best and what we like to use the most. If you like to wear makeup, great! But if you feel pressured to do so, you need to understand that you are so much more than red lips.

The idea is to learn to like yourself, accepting your own natural beauty, regardless of artificial products or what society may say. After all, it is important to value self-esteem and see one’s own beauty.
