What is happening to young people today?

Each new generation will be disqualified by the previous one as the one that is worse, throws the world down and has very few thinking heads. But today’s youth, born for the first time in history with a smartphone in their hands and the Internet in their heads, are so radically different from all those before them that it doesn’t even seem right to criticize them. It is simply impossible to understand it!

we, from Awesome.Club, we decided to research what differentiates these young people who have been involved in the virtual network since birth.

For two generations the term “hype” meant “fury.” Of course, the furor has always been there, but it has never been anywhere near the speed of the news explosion from the hype modern.

Some examples: good publicity, nowadays it is a photo successfully published on the Internet (just remember the blue dress that is white…or is it blue). The most up-to-date news is Twitter posts. The bombardment of creativity is in YouTube videos. Multimillion-dollar producers and projects are no longer a guarantee of success. What serves, at the moment, is what can capture the hype and balance on the chaotic wave of high speed generated by the furor of the net.

To be on the crest of this wave, young people constantly have to adapt to change. This is how, before our eyes, a generation of versatile people grows up, who can quickly adapt to every innovation and set new rules for the game as often as necessary. The famous SMM (Social Media Management) expert, Nikita Shirobokov, from Russia, wrote an interesting sentence about this subject in a post reflecting on youth.

According to the Huffington Post website, many employers already know that a large percentage of teenagers must enter the workforce with degrees obtained online or directly without having finished school.

All because these young people know exactly what they want and will not spend 5 years going to university in order to receive the desired diploma that has little or nothing to do with their true specialty. You won’t hear arguments like, “Honey, an intellectual shouldn’t be walking around without a degree.” With this, in the not too distant future, the teaching model should change substantially with a lot of emphasis on the so-called Distance Learning (EAD) instead of face-to-face and focus on fast specialized courses.

In recent years, new car sales in the United States have nearly halved. Automakers are seriously thinking about how they can sell cars to this damn generation. Economists, on the other hand, say they have never seen people as stingy as these young people.

They are not greedy, what happens is that, nowadays, the concept of owning things is no longer current. Some recent economic crises, plus the very advance of technology that is destroying some emoregos, have made young people today to be more careful with money and never spend it as generously as some of their parents used to do.

All purchases are analyzed in advance, prices are scanned on the web and even the smallest convenience of an acquisition is questioned: whether it is more profitable to rent an apartment than to buy it (the sharing economy). The new generation doesn’t care about stereotypes (which are certainly also losing the weight they used to have). If the new smartphone is cooler than a car, who wants a car? Win the smartphone! If I can travel by bicycle, why have an expensive vehicle that will burden me with expenses? Just for status?

Before, people used to trust authority. We trusted our parents and teachers. Today, for an average teacher, it is often difficult to compete with a student, he can, in a fraction of a second, verify any information and demonstrate the exact opposite of what he is told using a cell phone with Google. Constant verification of any information received is the motto of these young people. And you’ll only be able to fool them if you try to do it with an extremely slow representative of that generation.

Thought has been hit hardest by technology. It is worth mentioning that they work very well with this information, which helps to solve the tasks set in a much more efficient way. Given how fast the modern world moves, in the end it won’t be the old generation with their “we knew it by heart” that will emerge victorious.

Nowadays, teenagers look like phones with a lot of apps open. They can walk down the street while searching Cambridge’s virtual library for school project information while listening to a TEDx conference and discussing on Facebook about the new album by a popular witch house DJ. Now, imagine how these modern Caesars will affect the development of the new century!

Any subculture of the last century had an inherent idea, a protest and, at times, even a certain aggressiveness. Today, no one perceives rebellion in the way they dress anymore. Appearance doesn’t matter to anyone. Want to say or express something? Do it online. Why do you believe that Twitter, Instagram and Facebook were invented? The appreciable thing about this season is the variety. Today, a teenager can dance Sertanejo Universitário mixed with techno, cry while getting a tattoo listening to Linkin Park, go to a conference on the history of robotics in the second half of the 2000s with the exotic Afrohouse in headphones. It is no longer essential to choose, it is necessary to make the most of everything around us.

And what will we have after all? A multitude of young people who are open to everything new, who are not bound by stereotypes, who are pragmatic, develop at the dizzying speed of hype and have thought of video clips. They who throw the world down?
