The Angel is considered a purely spiritual being that was created by God to be his messenger and to manifest his will to men. According to the Jewish-Christian tradition, Angels are spiritual and celestial beings, who serve as God’s helpers. They live in the spiritual realm, above our plane. In the Bible, this spirit field or realm is called heaven. Much more than you can imagine, the Angels (or spirits, as they are also called) are present in our lives, influencing them and interceding for us with God. But, after all, what are the Angels like?

Doubts in creating what Angels are like

The Bible explains that Angels were created from Jesus (in Colossians 1:13-17), just like everything in heaven and on earth.

Already in Job 38:4-7, it specifies that the Angels gave shouts of praise when God created the Earth, which shows that his creation predates mankind.

But the questions still remain:
How are the Angels?
What do Angels look like?
How are Angels physically?

Angels, of course, are creatures that hold more power and abilities than the human race.
Based on the representation of images, the Angels appear delicate and beautiful, with wings of a bird proportional to the size of the body, a halo (halo (halo of light that appears over the head) and emanate a strong glow.

It is very difficult to explain what Angels are like. It is sometimes reported as a child, full of innocence and virtue. These celestial beings are important figures in various religious traditions, both present and past. All ‘accept’ its existence in fact, give it names.

But as are the real Angels, it differs between ethnicities. The described characteristics of are very different from those pointed out by the Jewish-Christian tradition which, by the way, itself shows inconsistency among its various authors who have dedicated themselves to researching and writing on the subject.

For these reasons, it is difficult to specify what Angels look like or even to answer the question of what Angels look like physically.

Popular culture itself portrays the Angels in a very different way from the tradition and belief of the region. Each country ‘stereotypes’ in its own way.

Tales of a clairvoyant

Still on the subject of what the Angels are like, already in our time, Sister Lucia, a seer, described the apparition of the Angel of Peace who, on three occasions, showed himself to the little shepherds before the apparitions of Fatima. He said:

“We began to see a light whiter than snow, in the form of a transparent youth, brighter than a crystal crossed by the rays of the Sun. As he approached, we could distinguish his features: a young man between 14 and 15 years old, of great beauty. We were surprised and half engrossed.”

Sister Lucia’s description did little to characterize how Angels are physically. In fact, it only increased the curiosity to know what Angels are like.

Not even Holy Scripture has a precise description of what Angels are and really are. His attributes and virtues are more detailed in terms of his actions in missions carried out at the request of God, than by his physical appearance or his countenance.

The truth is that when we talk about Angels, each one already imagines it in their own way. Very easily, and for most people, the image that comes to mind is of a very handsome young man, wrapped in a robe and full of glitter.

Other people go even further. They imagine a being taller than human beings, stronger and with a unique beauty. And then there’s the issue of wings.

What is certain and the consensus among all religions is that Angels are heavenly beings created by God, precisely to help in this process of bringing humanity closer to Him.

There is also general agreement that the Angels were responsible for various miraculous phenomena occurring around the world.

Other ‘theories’ of what Angels are like

Angels are spiritual beings and can present themselves in any form. They have no essential physical form (Hebrews).

According to the Bible, when Angels appeared to humans, it was also in human form, like normal men. And always in male form. There is no account of the appearance of Angels resembling women.

Matthew describes the Angel of the Lord as something from another world, with an appearance that terrified those who encountered them, so the first words of the Angels were: “do not be afraid”.

In Exodus, the feature of the Angels is described as winged. Both Isaiah and Ezekiel also report winged beings in their visions to depict Angels. Ezekiel himself said that Lucifer ‘arose’ in pride in his beauty. Thus, it is almost impossible to know what Angels are like.

Understanding what Angels are like

Whatever the Angels really look like, they are believed to be extremely beautiful and incredible beings. As everything around God tends to reflect his glory and beauty, it is normal to think that the Angels, who are constantly in his presence, have extraordinary beauty.
