I got married very young to the love of my life. She is the most beautiful woman there is and we are very happy together. But sometimes, like any couple, we argue. We got married when we were just 21; we were lovers and very immature. We had to grow up together and that often led to fights.

We started arguing over a silly topic and ended up digging up stories from the past, throwing arguments in each other’s faces, and eventually the situation became untenable. For me, it was critical that she understand my point of view. I also insisted that she come to me and apologize. Pride was a barrier that separated us.

One day, after a big argument, I went to my parents’ house to get some space and think clearly. I felt that we could no longer live in the same space and she shared the same opinion.

I spent a few nights with Mom and Dad, not talking much about it. I even thought that the best thing would be to separate, because then we would stop hurting each other. That’s when it happened: my father arrived and held me in his arms, like when I was little. Of course we still argue. Building a life with someone is one of the biggest challenges anyone can take on and there will always be obstacles and mismatches. But now, every time we’re about to start a fight, I look at her and remember that she’s the love of my life and that nothing justifies me hurting her. My wife is not my adversary; she’s my team, my support, the greatest love I’ll ever know and nothing justifies that she lacks that love.
