The liquid that removes blood stains from our sheets with a simple wash

Although it may seem like a fairly remote possibility, it is actually not that difficult to end up with a blood-stained bed. During the night, for example, a wound can be reopened. Or one could accidentally crush an insect. Or you may have a nose or menstrual bleed.

Regardless of the causes, treating this type of stain is not easy. In fact, once blood has penetrated the tissue, it tends to dry out and become embedded, making it difficult to remove.

However, by using the right products and paying attention to a few steps, even this problem could be solved with some ease. In the next few lines, therefore, we will see how to remove blood stains in an instant by pre-treating and then washing the sheets. The procedures that we are going to reveal are suitable for both whites and coloreds.

An initial soaking phase

To remove fresh or dried blood stains from our sheets, it is not necessary to put the washing machine on immediately. In fact, first it is necessary to pre-wash and then, once everything has been removed, do the washing itself.

So, first of all, we are going to take a fairly large basin and fill it with 1 liter of water. Next, we dissolve 350 g of citric acid in it and immerse our leaves. At this point, being careful not to splash too much, we pour, spoonful by spoonful, small doses of sodium carbonate. The addition of this ingredient will create foam, due to the interaction between the two substances (one acidic and the other alkaline). Every time we add a tablespoon of sodium carbonate, we shake the leaves a little, always with gloves.

Once the chemical reaction is finished, we let it soak for a couple of hours, taking care to keep the stained area soaked.

Once the necessary time has elapsed, we drain the sheets and put them in the washing machine, setting a washing temperature of at least 40 degrees. In this case, we could introduce any detergent into the drum, even better if it is composed of enzymes. In fact, within this type of detergent there is also protease, a substance that would be able to disintegrate protein stains, such as blood.

After washing, we simply place the sheets in the sun, which with its UV rays would help break down the stains.
