The 10 technological objects that your children will not know

He cassette, VHS, walkman, electronic diary, floppy disk? The most likely thing is that your children will not know what these devices were for or their names will not even ring a bell. And technology is advancing by leaps and bounds and what may now seem state-of-the-art will be surpassed in a few years.

These are just some of those objects that were very important to you at the time but that your children will not even know existed.

1. The cassette

Your kids won't know how hard it was to rewind a cassette with a stylus. This invention, created by Phillips in the 60s, represented a true revolution when listening to music. Although it was very popular in the 70s and 80s, its use declined in the 90s with the arrival of the discmanwhich is also disappearing.

2. The walkman

Taking music everywhere was possible thanks to cassettes, but also thanks to the walkman. This music player became very popular thanks to its resistance and light weight. The arrival of the discman, and then the mp3, has meant that the walkman has been relegated to such a distant plane that many children today do not know of its existence.

3. The discman

The Walkman revolution gave way to the Discman revolution. However, the success of this portable CD player, created by Sony in 1994, was rather short-lived. The arrival of Mp3 in the early 2000s left the Discman in the background.

4. VHS

This Panasonic invention revolutionized the way we watch movies at home. Since its appearance in 1976, until its progressive replacement by DVD in the 2000s, VHS was the most used video recording and playback system in all homes. Today it is nothing more than a relic.

5. The electronic diary

The pocket electronic diary was the precursor of tablets. With this invention from the 80s you could have your calendar, contact list, notepad, reminders and even an English translator at your fingertips in the most modern ones. Today they have disappeared to make way for tablets and smartphones.

6. The photo reel

Before the digital age, the photographs we took with analog cameras could only be viewed after developing the film. But this flexible film that allowed us to capture some of our best moments has now been forgotten.

7. The fax

Few faxes remain today. This apparatus, created in 1964, was a real revolution in its time since with it you could send images and documents to other devices. Something unthinkable before the appearance of the Internet.

8. The floppy disk

Until a couple of decades ago, floppy disks were still used in schools and offices as a method of exchanging files and documents. The arrival of the CD and then the USB has caused this storage system to completely disappear.

9. The handheld calculator

Although it has not yet disappeared, fewer and fewer people use handheld calculators to help them with their accounts. Thanks to phones and computers that incorporate this option, your child will not know what it is like to have to study with a calculator.

10. Digital cameras

Surely professional photographers and photography lovers will continue to use them. However, ordinary citizens will no longer need to use digital cameras to immortalize their vacations. And it's been a while since this invention lost the pulse to smartphone cameras.
