The first step in choosing any product is to evaluate its composition. Look at product labels and note what the main ingredients in the moisturizing shampoo are.

Therefore, it is important to be aware of each one of them and their goals, as this will define whether or not it is worth it for your hair. Read on to learn more about moisturizing ingredients, how each one performs, and whether they are irritants!

Assets with a moisturizing function can be divided into categories such as: panthenol, ceramides and plant extracts. Each of them has its own specifications, and understanding their effects on the scalp and hair will be essential for you to understand which one best suits your case.

Ceramides, for example, are natural fats produced by our hair and skin. It is common to identify them on the labels of moisturizing shampoos by the following names: ceramide 2, ceramide 3 (ceramide NP), dilauric acid, cetyl PG Hydroxyethyl palmitamide, 2-oleoamido-1, 3-octadecanediol, ceramide NS and hyaluronic acid.

These substances are able to close the cuticles of the threads, not allowing water to escape from them. That way, your hair will stay hydrated. However, you need to be aware of hyaluronic acid, because, despite being considered a ceramide, it is not as effective as those mentioned above.

What happens is that many shampoos have this substance exclusively in their formulation. However, it does not adhere to the thread so easily, being mostly wasted and this drastically reduces the moisturizing effect. This substance is cheaper and therefore it is usually present in lower priced moisturizing shampoos.

There is also a precursor substance of vitamin B5 which is D-Panthenol. This substance is associated with pantothenic acids and are produced naturally by our body. It acts by activating this acid and increasing the synthesis of vitamin B5, thus balancing the levels of proteins in the scalp.

In this way, D-Panthenol will ensure deep and lasting hydration, revitalizing the hair fiber and making the hair more resistant to damage caused by coloring or straightening. Another advantage of using this substance is the aid in hair growth.

The main function of plant extracts is to seal the hair fiber, thus preventing water from escaping in the treatment, in addition to being easily rinsed. The extract can improve the feeling of using moisturizing shampoos, however they moisturize less. This is because they come off easily in the rinse.

Therefore, they may be ideal for preserving the thread, but they do not guarantee deep and long-term hydration. It is recommended that you use shampoos that contain plant extracts together with ceramides or D-panthenol, as this way you will be able to prolong the hydration and health of your hair for a long period.

The combination of ingredients, that is, the manufacturer’s formula, is what will define whether the moisturizing shampoo will be able to clean and preserve your hair. In some compositions surfactants may be present and they will do the job of removing dirt and keeping the scalp moist, find out what they are below.

Betaine has a smooth and anti-irritant effect, not harming the scalp so much when washing the hair. It is able to make a creamy, consistent lather and even has a conditioning effect, which makes combing easier and leaves hair strands shinier.

This is a great substance to preserve shine…
