Study suggests younger sibling may be more fun and more likely to strike it rich

A study sponsored by YouGov, an international market research and internet-based data analysis company, found that there is a significant difference between the personality traits of older and younger siblings in British families. Those responsible for the research asked the participants to evaluate different qualities compared to their siblings, and this is how they were able to identify the most particular traits of each sibling according to the order of their arrival in the family and their own perceptions.

The results obtained indicate that younger siblings think they are more fun (46% compared to 36% for older siblings). In addition, they consider that they are more favored by their parents, as well as more calm and relaxed.

While the balance of social skills has tipped in favor of younger children, older siblings were considered more responsible (54% compared to 31% of younger siblings), and even more organized, confident, able to prioritize their own life and family oriented than their siblings who came later.

Have better interpersonal skills: It is easier for them to make friends, as they are experienced in being in situations where they are the “newbies”;

Are more creative: While older siblings are generally smarter, younger siblings tend to be creative. In part, this is due to a desire not to follow in the same footsteps already taken by the brothers who came before.

The surprising relationship between birth order and the chances of becoming a millionaire is supported by a study carried out at the University of Birmingham and the University of Reading, both in the UK. Research suggests that, out of an impulse of “rebellion”, the youngest member of the family is more likely to start a businesspaving the way to wealth more solidly.

The study looked at about 17,000 people born in 1970. All of them were re-interviewed when they turned 38. Thus, the researchers found that the youngest children of families who were not self-employed are 50% more likely to become business men and women open to take risks. Among entrepreneurial families, this number reached 65%.

Another curious conclusion: when there is a family business, older and middle brothers are more likely to follow in the same field, while the youngest tends to go his own way, again because they feel more comfortable taking risks.
