Whenever you are going through throat ailments, or things like that, you can turn to him, asking him to intercede for you with the father. Follow below for more details about the history of São Brás, as well as his prayers.

São Brás was always a very good man, with a sweetness that enchanted everyone. Always willing to help persecuted Christians, Brás was already writing his story of holiness. He checks out everything about his story, martyrdom and devotion below. Look.

Born in Armenia, Brás began his mission on land at an early age, as a doctor and priest. For his immense kindness, Christians soon elected him as bishop of Sebasta, in Cappadocia, still in the third century. This was certainly a tough period for Christians, as many were persecuted, tortured and killed.

São Brás had the power to not only heal physical illnesses, but also those of the soul. His compassion for those most in need was admirable. He always tried to use his talents for medicine, to help everyone, regardless of who they were.

Brás lived his life as a doctor, when he began to question himself about his profession, as he would like to serve God. It was then that he decided to become a hermit, and as a result, he ended up living in a cave for many years. As he assisted everyone who sought him out, and many times these people were cured, Brás’ fame as a saint soon spread throughout Cappadocia.

As soon as the local Bishop died, the population asked Brás to become a priest. The same accepted, and went to live in the city, where he studied and was ordained a priest. Some time later he ended up becoming a Bishop, and built a place to house the Diocese, close to the cave where he lived.

Agricola, the mayor at the time, was known for persecuting Christians. One day, he ordered them to look for wild animals to use in the “show” of Christian martyrdom. When they get close to the cave, they observe several wild animals living in harmony with Brás.

The governor was revolted by the situation and had Brás arrested. When he found Agricola, he ordered Brás to renounce Christ. The saint replied that he would never do that. Thus, Brás remained imprisoned, where he was tortured. And yet, he counseled and prayed for all who still came to him.

One day, due to the governor’s anger, São Brás was thrown into the lake, but by divine intercession nothing happened, and the saint walked on water. Upon his return, the governor ordered him beheaded.

The image of São Brás has many elements. The miter, for example, is the symbol of his episcopal mission. After all, as a Bishop, he was a great leader, in times of persecution of Christians. Already his red chasuble is the representation of the martyrdom lived by him. While his green tunic indicates the liturgy of common time.

In addition to representing the life that overcomes death in Jesus Christ. His right hand, which appears blessing, recalls the gesture he made when he prayed for the sick. Finally, the candles in his left hand are tied in the shape of a cross, symbolizing his blessing.

It can be said that São Brás represents the kindness of those who do good without looking at whom. He always used his gift for medicine, to be able to help everyone who needed it, especially the humblest.

In this way, it also represents doctors who fight to save lives, and love to help others. When he lived in the cave, São Brás also had a harmonious relationship with wild animals. Because of this, he is also considered a protector of animals and veterinarians.

The martyrdom of São Brás began when he had his prison order decreed, just because he was a Christian. In jail he suffered countless tortures, however, he never thought about denying Christ, and remained firm in his faith.

After countless episodes of torture, he was still thrown into a lake, to die. Only because some women had gone to the jail to have their injuries treated. They too ended up being killed by the soldiers. However, São Brás survived this lake episode, as he walked on water. Afterwards, as the end of his martyrdom, São Brás was beheaded, and his throat was cut by a sword.

São Brás has faithful all over the world, who turn to him for the most diverse requests. However, one of the greatest causes of his devotion is due to his reputation as a throat protector. Thus, this saint protects and intercedes for any kind of illness that may occur in that region.

In this way, São Brás is very dear, popular and well accepted among the faithful.
