San Francisco athlete draws artwork with his running maps

A long-distance runner from San Francisco, California (USA) had the original idea of using the city map as a canvas to create his artwork. With the help of two sports apps (which anyone can download on their cell phone), Lenny Maughan runs and “draws” his works on the map — the drawings are the paths he takes on the streets of the famous American city.

we, from awesome.club, We fell in love with Lenny’s excellent idea and would like to share some of his “works of art” with our readers.

Pig Run (“Pig Race”)

Lenny has been creating these illustrations for a few years now. So far, he has produced 53 works, which vary according to the complexity and distance covered in each training session. The corridor says that the most difficult moment in the production of the works is climbing the hills and hills, which, after all, are an inevitable part of the creation of almost all images. Taking a shortcut is not a viable option when creating these drawings.

Shamrock Run (“Shamrock Race”)

Barefoot Run (“Barefoot running”)

Lenny uses two apps, Strava and MapMyRun, which log his routes and provide all his run statistics.

Frida Kahlo Run (“Frida Kahlo Race”)

taco run (“Taco racing”)

Chopsticks Run (“Hashi Race”)

Route planning takes a lot of time. First, the athlete-artist draws the image he wants to place on the map, doing several tests. Lenny himself admits that sometimes sketching the image takes longer than running it. He needs to be extremely careful during the race, because just taking a wrong turn can ruin the whole drawing.

wired run (“Run on the wire”)

puzzle run (“Puzzle Race”)

Lenny does not accept commissions and never reveals what his next job will be. He wants to surprise both his friends and his followers.

Cat Run (“Cat Race”)

Cocktail Run (“Cocktail Race”)

Bonus: There’s even an annual cycling event called the “Turkey Ride”. Cyclists gather in San Francisco and follow an intricate path that forms the image of the bird.

Which of these routes did you find the most impressive? We’d be glad to hear your thoughts in the comments!
