Born at the end of the third century, in Narvonne, France, Sebastian moved with his parents to Milan, where he grew up and spent a good part of his youth. For example, from his mother, since he was very young, he already carried with him a great faith.

Still in his youth, Sebastião enlisted in the army, where he worked for Emperor Diocletian. For his bravery, he was soon appointed by the Emperor as commander of the personal guard. It was then that the young man became a great benefactor of Christians who lived incarcerated in Rome. He went on to visit the victims and comfort them.

However, Sebastian was denounced by another soldier, which made the Emperor feel betrayed. After all, Diocletian expelled all Christians from his army. So, when he found out about Sebastian, he ordered them to kill him with arrows.

The young man was tied to a tree trunk, and received numerous arrows. There Sebastian was left to bleed to death. When night fell, a woman named Irene went to the place to bury Sebastião. However, he was still alive. Irene hid him in her house, and took care of him. Already recovered, Sebastião continued his evangelization process.

From the height of his bravery, he presented himself again to Diocletian, asking him to stop persecuting Christians. The request was in vain, and the Emperor ordered that Sebastian be beaten to death.

In his image, São Sebastião appears half naked, with only a red cloth covering his private parts. In addition, he is tied to a tree, with some arrows stuck in his body.

Thus, the arrows represent the first phase of the torture that the saint suffered, at the behest of Emperor Diocletian, when he discovered that the young man helped Christians. Already the tree, it is an oak, which within Christianity means perseverance.

The half-naked body of the saint represents the humiliation that the Roman Empire put him through. The red cloth, on the other hand, represents his double martyrdom, in which he caused his physical death. Lastly, your aura is an indication of your sanctity.

After all, Sebastião died in the name of Christ, and even in the face of adversity, he never denied his faith.

In addition, he is an example of love for others. According to reports, Sebastian joined the army with the intention of giving strength to the Christian prisoners. Thus, he didn’t think twice about helping and donating to others, even if it cost him his life.
