Power of music

“I know a lot of people, myself included, who wouldn’t have survived without music. I almost died, and music helped me survive. It is incredibly powerful and we must be careful that it is not used in a bad way.”

(Stefan Koelsh)

This article was inspired by a Portuguese fado; As I listened to it, I felt how it filled my soul in a powerful way, so I thought I had to write an article about music... the one that fills so many moments of our lives, the one that adorns so many special occasions… because How many memories do we associate with a melody or a song?

Music, like perfumes, They have the power to take us to the past, to relive with nostalgia the first time we fell in love, to remember our mother doing housework listening to those songs or our old friends, dancing with laughter in that old bar that no longer exists.

And music is capable of making us nostalgic, happy, sad, melancholic.…. has the power to evoke emotions.

Music has so much power that when I listen to fado I imagine myself in Portugal walking through its streets, having a good time chatting with friends, with whom I share experiences and confidences, and I feel a kind of melancholy and happiness that I cannot explain with words, just feel with the heart.

According to the doctor, Through magnetic resonance imaging we can see how music profoundly modifies our brain.

But what are Stefan’s most interesting conclusions about music and our brain? We summarize it in a few tips:

Sad music can depress us. Even if they play us music that we don’t like at all, it has the power to bring out the worst in us, in addition to being used to torture and manipulate people.

One of his students went to Africa to do research. He went to visit people who had never heard music and played them sad, happy music, to arouse fear and their faces clearly reflected all the emotions that the different melodies evoked.

Music and language share the same network, especially in children, the brain does not distinguish between music and language. That is why it is very important that both children and babies listen to music. With the music, Children learn language processes and listening skills faster and have fewer dyslexia problems.

People who have depression and sing and play together improve. Although on this point, the professor clarifies that they still have no scientific conclusions.

-Music Helps people with Parkinson’s and autoimmune diseases.

-Music can accelerate the heart, cause palpitations, dilate the pupils, alter digestion, make your hands sweat… and all the organs, the hormones and the immune system, react to music.

-According to various investigations, music has regenerative effects at a biological level.

I have always believed so much in the power of music, now I won’t even tell you about it. I leave you a list of songsto awaken your endorphins, your alpha waves and everything it takes to make you happier.
