Alicia Sánchez-Camacho, the leader of the PP in Catalonia, kept the identity of the father of her 7-year-old son Manuel a strict secret until the news broke a few months ago. The father was the former Minister of Labor Manuel Pimentel, now happily retired from politics. Things, apparently, have relaxed since then because the couple (and the child) were seen days ago at the Roman ruins of Ampurias, in Gerona, not making any fuss but not hiding either. Good.

The photos were published yesterday exclusively by the newspaper “El Mundo”, along with a chronicle in which the walk of the Catalan politician, 47, and her romantic partner, 52, is recounted. Informal attire and numerous gestures of family fraternization.

Apparently Sánchez-Camacho and Pimentel do not live together. They have been in romantic relationships for more than seven years, maintained over time and expertly concealed. “My son has the best father in the world,” declared Alicia Sánchez-Camacho when paternity speculation began. Many people thought that politics had undergone artificial insemination treatment. Well, nothing artificial.

For Alicia, pay attention to her resume, unknown to many but intense, microphones suit her badly. She plays away from home although she was born in Barcelona, a hostile territory that is said to be for the Popular Party, and she rows against the current without pre-electoral polls in Catalonia supporting her constitutionality and anti-referendum efforts. She always speaks with a rictus of tension but this past weekend in Empurias she perhaps forgot about the problems and acted as “girlfriend” and mother. A joy.
