“My wife is my soulmate”, Matt Damon and his love story

Matt Damon met Luciana Barroso in Miami, and at the time, she was working as a waitress and raising their 4-year-old daughter, named Alexia. Matt was shooting a movie and, after signing autographs and taking pictures with his fans, he approached Luciana and they started talking.

In her own words, Luciana recalls: “We definitely had an immediate connection. We felt so comfortable with each other that it was very easy for us to talk. When you meet someone you have a connection with, it’s noticeable. And the fact that he was a movie star wasn’t really a determining factor. To me, it was just Matt.”

When he asked her out one day, she told him that she needed to take care of her 4-year-old daughter, Alexia. And to the young woman’s surprise, the actor expressed his admiration saying: “I love that you are a mother and that this is your priority”, thus showing her that this would not be an obstacle for them to start a relationship. After they were married, they had three other daughters, who they educate to be sensitive and empowered women.

They got married in 2005 and decided to renew their vows a few years later. Matt said in an interview that they would like to have a big party with the whole family in attendance. The actor had the opportunity to ask his brother (who had been married for 20 years) what the secret of a good marriage is, and his answer was just: “I was very lucky”.

Not having married an actress or other celebrity, the actor believes he can live a peaceful life, without exposing his family to the media. He also claims that his meetings with his wife are often sporadic, but he always looks forward to spending a night together, after picking up his daughters from school.

“We have a two-week rule,” he said on one occasion: “I’m not gone for more than two weeks. I believe it is necessary to be with the person you love as much as possible. My wife is my soulmate. I don’t like being away from her.”

As for his daughters, Matt said he never expected to be surrounded by women and that each day is a new learning experience: “I’m learning a lot, from what’s less important to how smart they can be.”

He added: “I thought for us men things were easier, but I realized that I was completely involved, concerned and connected with my first daughter when she was just 2 years old. And if they are able to do this to us at such a young age, when they are adults there will be no escape.”

The actor compared the feeling of fatherhood to being the Grinch, but in a good way: “Just as your heart has grown five times its size, this is what it feels like to become a father. It was like everything expanded in a way I didn’t know was possible. And it was instantaneous.”

The love that Matt feels for his daughters is so great that he even got their names tattooed on his arm, distributing them in order of birth: Alexia, Isabella, Gia and Stella. Previously, he had already tattooed the name “Lucy”, in honor of his wife, Luciana Barroso, with whom he decided to share his life.

Matt Damon admires his wife’s personality so much and is so passionate that he married her and raised his daughter from a previous marriage as his own.
