Meet B., the Instagram influencer bee helping save her species

The France Foundation, created in 1969, is recognized for its struggle to build a dignified and fairer society. Over time, the institution became a reference in philanthropy in French lands. In order to save bees and raise funds for actions to protect this species, the entity created the “Bee Fund”.

“You wouldn’t want a planet without bees. Save me.”

It is alarming, but in Europe (a region that nowadays is a reference in environmental preservation), 24% of bees die each year. Imagine then in regions with less concern for nature. A planet without bees would have huge impacts on food production.

Around 75% of everything harvested, whether for food or clothing, for example, comes from plants pollinated by these insects. In addition to providing an invaluable and free ecological service, the species is indispensable for ecosystems and for the world economy. Why do anything to save them? Simple: to save biodiversity and humanity.

Many of the deaths of this species are caused by intensive agriculture. Therefore, the Foundation seeks to fund the shift to cultivation techniques that are friendlier to bees, thus preventing their extinction. Furthermore, the natural habitat of these insects has been affected by mass urbanization and a safe space must be provided for them to live.

Finally, it is important to be careful with the use of pesticides, which are generally very harmful to bees. The Foundation seeks to demonstrate the impact that chemical substances have on these insects and find a remedy that does not affect them and allows them to do their job.

Therefore, although it is a long and complex road, the first step is to increase the amount of economic resources to cover the expenses of new techniques in agriculture, to rebuild a home where the bees can live and to find ways to reduce, as much as possible, the impact of pesticides on reducing their populations.
