Korean artist creates delicate tattoos that exude tenderness

For many people, tattoos have a deeper meaning than just beautifying the skin, according to psychologists. This type of body art often leads to a profound inner change, making a person mentally stronger. Sion Kwak is a tattoo artist from South Korea who does an unmistakable work, as she has a very characteristic trait. Red lace, beads with intricate embellishments and colorful animals: elements like these are brought together to create images full of meaning on people’s skin.

In an interview with awesome.club🇧🇷 Sion stated, “I was very inspired by my mother, who is also a tattoo artist, during my childhood. Carefully, I watched her at work, and I learned a few things, starting initially with the basic skills. But as we have different styles of drawing, I created my own line, after learning those basic guidelines”.

Several of Sion’s works feature red strings that have a special meaning for the artist. As she explains, the strings represent the flow of life and the “Yin-Yeon” — the bonds and bonds between people. The beads and pendants used with the strings represent different images, from flowers to animals. And all the elements have a special meaning for anyone looking for Sion with the desire to get a tattoo.

In some cases, she combines the designs with phrases to create tattoos filled with philosophical meanings. One of her most recent works shows the sun and moon inside an accessory known as a norigae, with the phrase “아무도 날 모르는 곳에”, which means “where nobody knows me” in Korean.
The rectangular part with the sun and a natural mountainous landscape was developed from the imagination of that “unknown” place, which is related to the written sentence. The moon is represented in a simple way, attached to black and gray threads.

Sion tries to get a sense of the client’s life, feeling inspired by the life stories she hears and the people she meets, who are also willing to share their experiences. By listening to them and establishing mutual communication, the tattoo artist lets creativity flow, which translates into different ideas for her designs. On occasions, clients act as true partners when creating unique tattoos.

This is a tattoo she got in collaboration with Zihaes.tale for one of her clients, who has a conflicting personality. “Sometimes it’s hard to accept, but it’s all part of who we are and the sensations we need”, says the artist.
Two strings, one light and one dark, represent the two sides of the conflicting personality. The remaining strands appear as a long stream, while the pendants show two different girls, that is, both sides of the same person.

The artist dedicates part of her time to researching symbols that later become part of her work. By doing so, she intends to create unique designs that fit the expectations of each client who seeks her out. The goal is to make tattoos become real talismans for people. That is why it is so important that the artist knows how to use symbols and images in an appropriate language, making it clear that each individual has an exclusive place in the universe.

Sion also has some tattoos on his body. All were made by artists she admires and respects, some of whom are people who would not otherwise leave an eternal imprint on her life. Each tattoo is, to her, like a page in a family photo album. Sion loves each of the designs she brings to her skin!

When asked what message she wants to convey to her clients, Sion does not hesitate to reply: “Through my work, I hope that people will become able to appreciate not only the aesthetic beauty, but also the peculiar beauty of Korean traditional culture around the world. – you norigae, fans, traditional hanbok dresses and knots represent the typical Korean spirit of ‘bonds’ between people. All of this brings powerful messages that I would love to share with everyone!”
