I’m a hairdresser and I’m going to tell you the best hair care tips (and beauty salon tricks)

Hello everybody! My name is Vera and I have been working as a hairdresser for 6 years. Since I was a child, I dreamed of becoming a professional in the field: I often ran to the salon where my aunt worked and tried to understand what professionals did and the best beauty tricks. After finishing high school, I started a professional course to become a hairdresser.

I will tell the readers of awesome.club how we should properly care for our hair and which procedures are best to avoid. In the bonus part of this post, I want to reveal the tricks that some of my fellow professionals will use to hide a botched job.

10. Why the blonde is so yellow

Most blonde clients want to keep the blonde’s more “platinum” tone and avoid yellowing the color for as long as possible. Many, however, complain that, after 1 week, the hair gains a more “yellowish” tone. There are several possible causes for this problem, and here below are the main mistakes that many make:

Brushing and styling without heat protectionwhich, for dyed hair, is always necessary when using a hairdryer.

Not controlling hyperhidrosis (It is not uncommon for the scalp to sweat). Excessive sweating can affect the durability of the hair’s tone.

Using regular shampoos and conditioners🇧🇷 When we don’t use special products for dyed hair, and especially for blonde hair, the color can be quickly lost in a wash. So that this does not happen, it is necessary to forget all the products that do not contain the indication of color protection (“color protection”). Purple color shampoos are also specific to neutralize the “yellowish” tone of the blonde.

Wash your head with very hot water🇧🇷 I always say that you can, without a doubt, take a hot shower, but in that case, it’s best not to wash your hair. The dyed strands, like the scalp, need to be washed with lukewarm or cold water.

9. Why I don’t do hair polishing

This is probably one of the most popular procedures of 2019. But what I have to say about it is, “I’m against it.” Calm down, I’ll explain better my position. To “polish” your hair, most of the time, professionals will use common hair clippers, using a specific adjustable comb. The problem is that the machine cuts both damaged strands and healthy strands. Often, hair density is lost with this procedure.

Cutting during polishing is often uneven and risky. The result is enough for a week🇧🇷 Then the wires begin to break more often. To obtain the ideal result, the procedure needs to be performed only with scissors.

Many professionals offer to “seal” the ends after polishing. This is done to prolong the effect. Most of the time, the procedure is combined with lamination or hair “botox”, thus increasing profits. Remember that no salon procedure is capable of recovering damaged hair.: split ends cannot be made “healthy”, they can only be removed.

8. The importance of peeling capillary

It is perfectly normal for your salon professional not to achieve the color you wanted. Thus, we end up repeating the traumatic process of coloring, which is very harmful to the health of our hair and scalp. To avoid this, you can ask to do a hair peeling or stripping, which are nothing more than forms of exfoliation.

Pickling is the removal of artificial pigment from hair strands🇧🇷 On damp and clean hair, add one part of bleaching powder to 4 parts of oxidant (1.5% and 3%). Then it will be possible to tone the hair to a more appropriate and desired color.

Peeling allows you to lighten the color by up to one tone🇧🇷 Most of the time, a mixture of a specific powder, low percentage oxidant and deep cleaning shampoo is used. The same can be done when the discoloration is uneven.

These are less impactful procedures for the hair when compared to a second lightening or bleaching procedure. Stripping and peeling are faster processes, as the liquid composition spreads more easily through the wires, which leads to a more immediate reaction. Thus, it is possible to save time and maintain the health of your hair.

7. What can affect the root of your hair

Sometimes we have an unpleasant sensation of pain at the root of the hair, as if it is being pulled. Let’s understand where this pain or feeling of discomfort comes from.

hypersensitivity🇧🇷 It is possible that, simply by changing the place of the hair parting, the head starts to itch or hurt. When this happens, your leather skin is likely to be very sensitive and may even react to new shampoos. Elastics, barrettes and hair that is too tight🇧🇷 By pinning your hair in the opposite direction of natural hair growth, you may experience a feeling of discomfort over time. aggressive procedures🇧🇷 Dyeing, bleaching, permanent brushing. The skin on the head normally reacts to such procedures, and you may feel irritated, burning, and dry. So, before you dye your hair, test for allergic reactions. lack of washing🇧🇷 Dirt clogs the scalp pores and makes the hair root heavier, which can cause pain.

6. Why is it important to soften the hair cuticle?

There is a procedure that can be done to soften, or loosen, the hair cuticle layer, which will make dyeing easier later on. Thanks to this procedure, the grayish tones will be better dyedwithout excessive shine and with a more uniform color.

To color the hair, it is only necessary to distribute the dye evenly, but to soften the cuticle, it is necessary to use an oxidant that must be applied to the white or gray hairs and wait 15 minutes for the product to act. This method can also be used to turn gray hair “platinum”.

Why this procedure is almost not done in salons🇧🇷 First, not all hairdressers know about this method (my aunt told me this secret). Second, it would be more working time for both the professional and the client. And finally, this means an additional cost of materials, considering that many customers today are looking for more economical options.

5. How to get rid of split ends

I will tell you how to avoid the damaged ends of our hair:

Use hair dryer, flat iron and curling iron only after applying a product for the thermal protection of the wires. Under high temperatures, hair loses moisture, becomes more porous and brittle, and then begins to break. Do not brush wet hair: they can stretch and break. Also avoid old and damaged brushes, they can harm your scalp and tangle your hair. I recommend buying a brush with natural bristles or silicone combs. Trim the ends every 2 months🇧🇷 Otherwise, split ends will split and affect healthy hair. Always observe the condition of the materials used in the salon you attend. If the professional uses blunt scissors, it can damage and break your hair. If the scissors are not in proper condition, you will likely come back to the salon after 2 days with the same problem. Don’t cut the ends🇧🇷 This procedure is used to define the shape of the hair by making pricks at the ends of the strands. This, however, divides the hair into parts, and then the ends begin to split. A good hairdresser can make an excellent cut without clipping. Don’t forget to moisturize your hair🇧🇷 During the summer, your hair will become drier and more fragile. Frequently use revitalizing and hydrating masks, special sprays or oils.

4. Is it worth dying children’s hair?

Customers are increasingly interested in leaving their children with brightly colored hair. Most of the time, mothers prefer pink hair for their daughters, or just dye the ends. Fortunately, there are now many safe ways to give your hair a different shade.

Crayons are the most harmless way to color your hair. in any color of the rainbow. Yes, coloring your hair with chalk is fashionable in many parts of the world, especially in the USA. The chalk doesn’t leave the hair dry, but the color only lasts until the first wash. Also, there are many creams and sprays that can color your hair and are perfectly harmless.

It is important to remember that some of these products soil your clothes. Especially the crayons, which come off the wires more easily. Of course, to dye your hair like this at home, you will need to wear gloves. Otherwise, not only will your hair be dyed, but your hands as well.

3. How to do a party hairstyle and why hairdressers prefer blondes

The most important thing in any hairstyle is to keep the hair clean and natural. Whether it’s a low bun or a half-up bun, the most important thing is that the hair looks natural and well-groomed. By the way, why do you think hairdressers prefer to use blondes as models? Simple: dyed and damaged hair retains its shape better. On the other hand, working with hair that is too smooth and soft is much more difficult, and many professionals refuse.

Here are some tips for you to know if you are doing a hairstyle correctly:

Hair needs to be groomed correctly — straightened or in curls. The professional needs to determine the center of the hairstyleand from it the structure is assembled. During assembly, it is not necessary to use lacquerin order to prevent the hair from becoming sticky or too stiff. The hairdresser needs to ask about your outfit style🇧🇷 For dresses with open shoulders, the more armed hairstyles are perfect; in other cases it is better to give preference to curls.

2. Which shampoo is better — regular or professional?

Common everyday shampoos are intended only for removing dirt and sebum buildup. Professional shampoos not only have a cleaning function, but also help to solve specific problems by thickening or moisturizing the hair. I did a little experiment: the left side of the head was washed only with professional shampoo; and the right side with a popular household product sold in any grocery store or pharmacy.

With the result, it was found that the normal shampoo, which cost about 3 times cheaper, gave the hair a good volume. But after use, the hair became dandruff, which was not observed after using the professional shampoo. The latter also left the hair looking “cleaner” and “tidy”. Regular shampoo should be used with a conditioner🇧🇷 Case…
