I tried out how to wear old-fashioned clothes and how to make up-to-date combinations

Almost every woman has that piece tucked away in the back of her wardrobe that was once a trend. The big question is what to do when clothes go out of style. It’s a shame to throw it away, but nobody wants to look old-fashioned. So these items often end up spending a century in the wardrobe, waiting for the moment to be used. But actually, you can still use them to create cool everyday looks.

My name is Polina and, together with awesome.club, I am convinced that any part in good condition can be used. Just learn to combine it correctly with other clothes, using your imagination to the fullest. spoiler: Creating a look with only outdated items will not work, you need to wear one or at most two pieces. Check out!

1. pencil skirt

You can find a pencil skirt that was bought for work in practically every woman’s wardrobe. Before, it was combined with shirts, but nowadays this trend is no longer used🇧🇷 This look looks old-fashioned due to the lack of volume and the famous “air” that sits between the body and the clothes”.

To give it a more modern touch, combine this skirt model with different types of voluminous shirts. Prefer opposing styles: leather jacket, loose shirt, cardigan, sweatshirt. Also, to disguise the tight skirt, you can tie a thin sweater around your waist. Wear with boots or sneakers.

2. Leggings pants

3. Fitted dress

I ended up succumbing to the tight dress fashion and bought one, but I didn’t take into account the density of the fabric. It was too thin and it ended literally emphasizing all my folds. I will never wear it alone, but it can be the foundation for building a multi-layered look. You can wear a jacket, vest, shirt, dress, jeans. But the important thing is that outerwear should be loose and not tight.

4. Skinny jeans

To fit skinny jeans into an outfit, you need to follow the volume rule: the loose top is harmonious with the narrower bottom and vice versa🇧🇷 Skinny models go well with long jackets, hoodies and shirts. But it also serves to build a layered look. It is important that most of the pants are hidden under other pieces.

An important point: the old skinny pants are always tight at the bottom, while the trendy pants these days have a low waist. So, our old pieces are best paired with high-top shoes or, in the case of sneakers, with tall, thick socks.

5. Dress out of fashion

When a print or dress style is outdated, but the colors and length are still relevant, you can match the garment with a voluminous sweater on top. It will hide part of the print and the shape of the dress. However, this combination will only work if the pieces talk to each other. To finish the look, wear a belt or trendy sneakers.

6. Short, tight shirt

These days, oversized shirts are all the rage, and short blouses seem totally out of fashion. But you don’t have to get rid of your blouse. you can use it like an inner layer underneath a sweatshirt, sweater and even dress. And if you have length, it’s best to leave the bottom of the blouse on display.

I still have an embroidered blouse—it was in fashion four years ago. Nobody wears it these days, but I think a popping collar looks great under a sweater. By the way, if the shirt has long sleeves, you can leave them slightly exposed.

7. Long-sleeved knit blouse

A few years ago, we paired long-sleeved knit sweaters with jeans and didn’t care. Today this look looks extremely bland. If you still have this part in good conditionyou can combine it with a loose knit dress, an oversized jacket or a vest.

8. Leather jacket

A modern leather jacket should be bulky and baggy or super-short. Average models went out of fashion a long time ago. And that’s why you shouldn’t use this jacket as an independent element in the look.

However, you can combine it with some other piece on top. Leather is easy to match with other jackets, fur coats and cardigans. This piece can be used to your advantage, as combinations with bulky clothes can be cruel to the silhouette.

9. Classic overcoat

Not so long ago, the classic overcoat was very popular—straight-cut, knee-length, with no bulk at the waist. It was the foundation of any fall and spring look. Now, however, it’s not as used anymore.🇧🇷 Last year, designers breathed new life into this piece. New versions with different colors, styles and lengths made the classic version old-fashioned.

to continue using this model updated, combine it with different options for the bottom: baggy pants, maxi skirts. This combination will add extra length, and you can even use a scarf to add volume to your shoulders.

Conclusion

We can see that even those clothes considered outdated can create a new look if you use them in the right combinations🇧🇷 Unfortunately, you can’t do that with shoes. Shoes are the first thing people pay attention to, and if they are out of fashion they will be noticed immediately.
