Hasbro launched a Monopoly for “millennials” that generated a lot of controversy on social networks

Monopoly is one of the most recognized board games worldwide. Who hasn’t played at least one game? There are two groups of opinions about it: those who think it is the best and most fun game and, on the other hand, those who hate it because the rounds seem eternal and full of tension between players. The same goes for the new edition released by Hasbro, the Monopoly Millennial. So far, opinions are also divided: some love the idea, others think this game is out of place.

O awesome.club wants to tell you what this new board game is all about and show you some of the reactions its launch has generated.

In the “millennial” version of Hasbro’s traditional Monopoly, instead of earning money, the player gains experience and, instead of buying streets or countries, performs some of the plans and activities that this generation likes most.

Many people who are by age group within the millennial generation have expressed their displeasure on social media, not because of the game in general, but because of its slogan: “Forget real estate equity. Either way, you can’t afford it.”

This new game has 16 Fate, 16 Luck and 16 Pay cards. The latter are no longer real taxes as in previous editions. Now it will be your turn to pay for acts like: looking for work on the internet and ending up watching videos for hours, using more than 46 emojis in a single text, having a suspicious increase in followers on social networks or selling your grandmother’s vintage coat. You can also gain experience thanks to facts like: your blog hit a million views, you found love through a mobile app or you have a fourth job.

Reactions from young millennials were not long in coming, and while some think this game is a hit, there are many others who think it’s just a new way to laugh at them and their situation or hobbies.

“Hasbro created a new game called #MonopolyforMillennials, definitely aimed at old and powerful boomers, to make fun of #Millennials and reproduce the stereotypes that boomers created for them.”

“Monopoly made a version of their game for millennials and baby boomers alike.”

“Monopoly for Millennials is exactly why Hasbro is an old-fashioned team.”

“The next one will be a Monopoly for baby boomers, where you can buy property below its true price, only people of color go to jail, and when you pass the exit house, you can complain to millennials.”
