The study

The University of Michigan, in the USA, carried out a survey whose conclusion indicated that couples’ fights are not as negative as we might think. On the contrary: they can even increase our life expectancy. The experts followed 192 couples who had been together for at least 17 years. They were divided into four categories: in the first were those in which the two members always made it clear to their partner when they were angry about something. In the second and third were those in which one spouse always communicated his dissatisfaction while the other repressed it. And the fourth group was made up of couples in which both members were silent about the irritation they felt.

The results

Of the 192 couples studied already mentioned, 26 belonged to group four, andm that both spouses repressed anger🇧🇷 The researchers assessed the odds of death among members of these couples over the research period. The fatality rate for at least one member was 27%. And the risk of death for the two members reached 23%.

The healthy power of a good fight

The results showed that those couples who hid their feelings suffered more from health problems compared to those who always made their feelings explicit. The study took into account factors such as age, smoking, weight, blood pressure, bronchial problems, breathing and cardiovascular risk, combined with exposure to stress and anxiety.

Discuss to live longer
