Excessive control of emotions: find out why it is not a good idea

Trying to completely control emotions can have very negative consequences for mental health.

Sometimes, the concept of personal development and improvement is misunderstood, leading to the belief that the ideal is to always be happy and feel good at all times. Why is it not advisable to completely control emotions?

Controlling emotions excessively or repressing them represents a big mistake on the path of personal development. We must try not to avoid them and understand that these are normal and temporary.

Experiencing all types of feelings throughout life, both negative and positive, is part of the human condition. It has always been like this and always will be.

Therefore, we must accept emotional states, and let them flow in a positive way. But, to achieve this, it is necessary to know yourself very well and have great intrapersonal intelligence. That is, we must develop the ability to understand oneself, to assume one’s own strengths and weaknesses. So that one learns to use this information to regulate one’s own life.

So, If we know how we react to certain situations, we can anticipate the feeling and live with it while it lasts. We allow some emotions such as happiness, joy and enthusiasm, because they leave us with a pleasant feeling, but those that are not so pleasant are also part of life and it is not healthy to cover them up or reject them.
