Eva Longoria, fascinated with Asturias

The actress, known worldwide for her role as Gabrielle Solis in the television series “Desperate Housewives”, arrived at Asturias Airport at noon, on a private flight from La Rioja. She was accompanied by her husband, Jose Bastonand her friend Maria Bravowho were with her throughout her journey through Asturian lands.

The search for her roots has been almost an obsession for the North American actress who, as she confessed yesterday, took DNA tests that confirmed that her roots were, indeed, Asturian. For this reason, her first stop in Asturias was the land of her ancestors: the council of Belmonte de Miranda.

In Longoria, the expectation for the probable visit of the Hollywood star was maximum. But Eva Longoria had to wait: after one in the afternoon, the bus carrying the actress and her companion passed by the small town without stopping. And her first stop was the capital of the council, Belmonte. From there, the delegation headed to San Bartolomé, where Longoria visited the church and the parish cemetery, where shields are preserved that attest to the notoriety that her family achieved before emigrating to America.

“It's my first time in Asturias, in the north of Spain, and I love it. There is a big difference with the south or with Madrid: it is greener and? wow? beautiful! Although they tell me that it is not always this weather, that 'I brought the Sun', I'm happy,” Longoria exclaimed upon arriving, pardon the redundancy, at Longoria. The actress could not resist the temptation to take a photograph at the entrance sign to the town, posing with her husband and her friend María Bravo, touching the sign on which her surname appeared, in Spanish and Asturian, enjoying her return to the promised land . “I've eaten everything. The wine is touching me. It's very dangerous for the diet to be here, because I'm going to gain weight. That's why I'm leaving!” the actress joked, in fluent Spanish, as she left the espicha, provoking the laughter of the neighbors. Longoria promised, however, to return to these lands: “I want to return to Asturias with my father, because he is always looking for our roots, our family. I want him to come see (Rosa Fernández's) house and this land.”

The Longoria family's interest in unraveling its origins, in any case, is not limited to one generation. As the actress revealed, in Texas, where she was born, the Longorias still preserve part of the land where they settled four centuries ago, when they landed in the United States: “It's strange, but we still have, in Texas, land that the King of Spain in 1603. We still have this land, and we have cows and everything. It looks like Asturias, a little piece of Asturias in Texas. It's the same, four hundred years later. Texas is in Asturias.”
