Some will say that it is a young gypsy girl who takes care of people, while others will talk about a lady who suffered a lot for love and now protects her lovers. But what is the right answer?

Both are correct. The explanation is that the Gypsy of the East is not a person, but a group of Gypsies who have reached a high spiritual level and who appear to help humanity.

So, when a psychic recommends that you make an offering to the “Gypsy of the East”, remember that it is not a single entity, but the personification of one of the dozens of gypsies from Umbanda’s “East line”. Each has its own characteristics.

The East Line in Umbanda

The “Gypsy of the East” line is formed by spirits who work mainly in physical and emotional healing processes. They are deeply knowledgeable in alchemy, astrology, tarot, oriental medicine and many other strands of ancient knowledge.

Despite common sense talking about “Ciganos do Oriente” as a synonym for “Eastern line”, this Umbanda auxiliary line embraces many more people. In addition to the gypsies, Arab, Japanese, Chinese, Mongolian, Egyptian, Gallic and Roman entities participate in the “Oriental line”.

Secrets of the Gypsy of the East

The secrets of the Orient line are not yet public knowledge, as the Gypsy of the Orient is adept at the occult. Very few Candomblé or Umbanda terreiros are dedicated to this line of work.

The problem lies precisely in the gypsy culture. These people, despite being very helpful, do not share the mystical secrets of the universe with other ethnicities. All knowledge is hermetically kept within the community and its sharing with outsiders is prohibited.
