Dancing is capturing the rhythm of life

Dancing is a way of making poetry with the body. They say that dance is one of those arts in which only those who love themselves very much excel. This makes a lot of logic, if you take into account that to be good dancers we have to know our body well, connect it with our deep emotions and allow them to be expressed through directed movements.

A kind of happiness always operates in dance, although there are dances that express a dramatic feeling. An act of freedom is also put into play in dance.since it is a break with the usual movements and allows everyone to convert their body into an artistic medium.

Not all of us can be professional dancers, but definitely dance is available to everyone and, in fact, it is present in countless social situations. That’s why the discos are there and that’s also why regional or family parties are held.

Many of us feel that a party that does not include dancing is an incomplete party.because dancing is synonymous with celebration and joy.

A study published in the journal International Journal of Neurosciencein 2005, showed that a group of adolescents with mild depression significantly improved their condition thanks to dancing. This allowed them to reduce dopamine levels and increase serotonin levels, which ultimately improved their mood.

In another research carried out at the Albert Einstein School of Medicine in New York, it was established that dancing favors brain structures and prevents the aging of this organ. Apparently, dance reverses the loss of volume of the “hippocampus”, a structure that is directly related to memory.

In their conclusions they noted that while completing crossword puzzles and other hobbies reduces the risk of dementia by up to 47%, dancing does so by 76%.

At McGill, a Canadian university, they carried out a curious study in which they found that People with Parkinson’s disease improved significantly when they danced tango continuously. Several of the patients reported that when they prepared to dance to the music, the tremors in their bodies began to fade.

Dance to enrich life

For better or worse, as we grow older and take on responsibilities, our body begins to adopt repetitive postures. Much of our body seems to become something foreign.

We rarely think about it, except when there is a discomfort here or a little pain there. If anything, the body appears as an aesthetic concern or medical, but not as a channel for art.

When we begin to practice dancing, we also begin to become aware of our body.. In particular, rigidities and disconnections become evident. The questions every new dancer asks are why can’t I “release” my waist, hips or shoulders? Why can’t I tune my feet to my hands and my head or trunk?

The truth is that the body reflects our personality and our internal conflicts. Nothing like dancing to make all of that become evident. AND That is the first great contribution of dance: it helps us connect with ourselvesallows our inner world to be expressed.

The ability to follow the rhythm of music with the body promotes self-recognition and reveals our asynchronies.

The social aspect of dancing

And not just what has been mentioned. Dancing is an eminently social activity and, therefore, it not only allows us to connect with ourselves, but also with others.

In most cases, dancing requires us to adapt to the body and movements of another person. Without realizing it, this increases empathy and sociability.
